Healthcare in this country is massively over regulated and the role of insurance has both complicated the system as well as limited the consumer's direct transactional involvement. The result is a highly distorted industry that is overly complicated and lacks the kind of competition that drives continuous improvement with commensurate cost containment that exists in competitive industries.
