The only game I've ever been impressed with UCLA under Mora was the Nebraska blowout last fall. Hundley looked like an All-American that day, but it was a pretty fleeting moment.

Mora is a good motivator and recruiter. I've never been sold on the coaching though. Too many penalties, very average defenses for a defensive coach. People like the Carroll comparison, but Pete always had good defenses in the NFL before making the switch to college. Mora had very few good defenses in the NFL and the ones he did have in SF were dominant before he took over. It's not his fault his team is overhyped, but they are still a few years from being an actual contender to make the playoffs.

Carroll also had some bad defenses in college. PM Vince Young for details. But you're not cherry picking your facts or anything.
Holy fuck you are a Brooin for Mora. Taking bad about Pete to prop Mora up is akin to JohnB poo pooing Don James' accomplishments to boost Sark. It's not as bad, but it's similar. Go look at Pete's NFL defenses vs. Mora's. Pete is as good of a defensive coach as there is. Mora is not. The numbers don't lie. How many games had Carroll won in a row before the Vince Young game? If Mora loses 2 games over 3 years, I won't say shit about his defenses.

The only time Mora was a real option was 2007. Compare his two plus years at UCLA to owen12 and two years of Sark. Considering the talent that was actually here I think we were correct in saying he could have rebuilt UW fast. He really has got UCLA excited and over rated or not UCLA is getting a lot of free pub and good recruiting.

From what I saw of it, UCLA looked like crap. But they did win on the road, and Don James won a lot of games in similar fashion. We would all be grumbling about the offense and wondering if we could win 8 games that year. He also said the biggest time for improvement is between game 1 and game 2.

You need to relax and gain some perspective.
Where did I talk bad about Pete Carroll? By pointing out that he had some bad defenses? Go check SRS and DVOA and GHT and LRM and any other bullshit initial statistics that you jerk off to constantly. That defense the year they lost to Young was not good.
Sorry that pointing this out hurt your feelings. But you specifically chose to criticize Moras UCLA defenses, ignore Carroll's bad years at USC and use their NFL track records. That's cherry picking.
I'm not even going to bother with the part about how many games Carroll won in a row. You know how stupid that is when talking specifically about defense.
APAG- I think Mora is a pretty good coach. My post had nothiing to do with SRS. UCLA has holes though and I've talked about them for months. 10-3 teams that lost multiple impac players aren't championship contenders.They were evident today. Virginia didn't win an ACC game last year. Your post was fucking stupid. Stick to the NBA.

Goldshower, I pointed out that Carroll's defenses in the NFL, both as a head coach and a DC, were better than Mora's. At USC, Carroll had great defenses almost every year. The one year you pointed out, which had nothing to do with the original argument, was pretty fucking stupid considering they were undefeated before losing to another undefeated team in the championship game. Every other defense he had from the very first season he was at USC was at least very good (top 25), most being great (top 10).
There's no shame in being a fan of Mora and thinking he has the potential to be a great coach. I don't share that opinion because I haven't seen evidence that he's better than good. Just get his dick out of your mouth and bring real arguments instead of getting sandy when I accurately point out that Mora has never been in Pete's league as a defensive mind.
