Underdeveloped, Poorly Coached, Underutilized, Wrong Era Huskies...

Think a guy like Marcel Reece fits here? I barely remember him playing at UW aside from the 98 yard reception, and he ended up with a long productive career with 3 pro bowls in the NFL

Sean McGrew would have been amazing in Boners offense. Graduated one year too early.
What if Jimmy gives McGrew (and Pleasant) carries against Montana instead of Dick Newton? I remember being at that game and watching McGrew pace the sidelines endlessly as he wasn't put in and Newton ran into the back of linemen for 1-2 yard gains. What a terrible coach. One of the top times I've felt sorry for a college athlete.

Doog legend Dick Newton was the master of appearing to run furiously without actually going anywhere, breaking or avoiding any tackles.

Greatest of all-time at making a two-yard run look like it was more. I will say though that I think Deboer and Grubb should have maybe used him in short yardage situations when he was on the roster. He did seem decent at forcing 1-2 yards when there was zero there, but absolutely nothing else.

Marcel Reece was an all-pro and never did shit at UW. Could have been a great BIG BACK for us.
There are so many guys like this. Miami has a ton of them. I almost root against them once I've concluded they were mailing it in in college. Paycheck players.

Fucking Gilby turning away Nate Robinson because he missed spring football after back to back varsity sports as a true freshman? I don’t remember reading about this. That’s a criminal offense by Gilbertson, f.him

I gave Isaiah Stanback his first ever Husky shoutout in the old student section during the spring game as he walked up from the track when he was being recruited by UW before his senior year. He enjoyed the free pub and had a big smile looking my direction. He definitely appreciated the home town love that day.
My sister’s youngest daughter was at Garfield the same time as Isaiah. I was visiting Seattle and took my sister’s family to the spring game back when I followed recruiting religiously. Taking in HS during the spring in Seattle is always a great day! I’ve got a big voice and my niece was hiding her face when I noticed our future qb and her classmate. Once he grinned with his big smile she was no longer embarrassed by her Husky uncle. CSB or not jaja
I'm pretty sure I remember the Gilby/Nate thing in either Doogman or Seattle Times. Nate had been worn out from basketball so he didn't think he had the energy to play football and didn't show up for spring. Then he had a change of heart, but Gilby said nope, wasn't fair to the other players. I kind of get that but fuck man you have to find a way to make that work when you have one of the best athletes in the world offering to play. If it's still out there, Nate's highlight reel for Beach is borderline Reggie Bush level. They would need to find a way to get him on offense.
The fact that Gilbyham didn’t make an exception considering he had just finished hooping is pain stupid. Obviously had he not played for romar the move is 100% understandable. More likely I forget this completely knowing it was probably in the ST or doogman.

Yeah I’m sure the plan was to suck in college so he could go undrafted. Or the coach is just a dumbfuck. Or maybe it’s the pant stripes weighing him down.
