Turn out the lights, the party’s over

I should probably make it a new year's resolution to count the servings I have each day, just to get an actual true baseline. It's sooooo hard. Not drinking when golfing is basically impossible. Birdie? Shots all around! And yeah it's hard to get hammered when you weigh 200 and drink tons of water.
Usually manage to not drink on Mondays (hooray?) and sometimes Tuesdays. My weekly average has to be over 20 still.
I'm gonna try keeping spreadsheet. I feel that provide a little more focus.
If I could finally get to a stay of 10 or fewer per week, it would be a god damned miracle and big performance hack.
People forget that even hungover row peter puffers are capable of amazing cardiovascular feats of strength! I once got a Peloton PR at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua after like 14 pool beers and cocktails the day prior.
Since I spreadsheet my erging right now I decided to just add a column and do the same for drinking, starting yesterday. "Only" 2.5 glasses of wine at dinner. That's where the under 20 per week is hard. 4 beers during 4 hours of golf is low, before any 19th hole or weekend dinner drinks.
If you golf a lot, it's way hard to stay below 20 per week.
I mean shit, when @AtomicPiss and @chuck and brother of @chuck were slogging up the back 9 at Tetherow in 93 degree high desert heat, I went through 3 Pfreim Pilsners (high @BleachedAnusDawg ) like a boss. And then whacked down 2 Boneyard IPAs in the clubhouse with these guysm. And then I probably had a bourbon neat when I got home. Felt fine the next day other than not perfect sleep. It's easy to throw down a lot of drinks, while not necessarily being an alcoholic with impacts on work, family life, etc.

I drink three bottles of wine Friday through Sunday
It's true that as you age the ability to drink like a fish goes away
I come from Viking stock and back in the day I could really put it away drinking with Odin in Valhalla

It's easy for me not to drink much, especially in the heat. You saw what can happen. I was coping with the bad Mexican food revenge until you gave me that beer at the turn.
I did drink about a bottle of wine on Christmas Eve. That's a big deal for me. No ill effects though.

I’ve been successfully shaving for a while now. Instead of a couple of stiff drinks at night to unwind, I will have an edible instead. Probably in the 4-6 range per week now for drinks. We do happy hour with friends a couple tims a week, and I have completely stopped drinking in bars/restaurants. I’d rather pour my own at home for half the price.

I will let go on vacation, but go dry for a month coming off of it. I didn’t drink at all for 2 months of 2024. I would hate to know my drinks per week rate from 25-45, when I was doing the Coors Light thing…

When my dad was my age he was still putting down 40 plus Bud Lights a week, easy. He’s dialed that back to probably 8 beers a week now.

I can’t even fathom knocking back the amount of booze those in my parents’ generation did.

My dad was drunk from 1945 to his death in 1980
Fortunately not a mean drunk. A quiet drunk
I didn't even realize it growing up
Well stocked booze cabinet and drinks after work every day
And their bridge club…

They beat Hitler and Tojo. They earned it.

Not quite that old - but beat the Commies in Korea.

Drinkers in the 60s and 70s were next level.

At the end of the day, if a person is consuming alcohol, the body is processing sugar. Fermented sugar.

Physiologically speaking, it's all downhill from there. That's a lot of acid in the system.

My dad had two doubles every night, until he retired and started drinking them in the morning. I confronted him, which was quite a big step for me, at age 19. I left for two days, and when I returned, my mom said when I left he dumped out every bit of alcohol down the drain, and never took another drink. He was one of the guys that beat Tojo, and he was fucked up for the rest of his life.
With the help of a recently retired career Navy neighbor, I discovered he was on the crew that built the Suribachi Highway on Iwo Jima, something he never shared with me, despite my pestering. He earned it…

To this day us kids have no idea of what our dad actually did in WW2. He had the thousand yard stare is about all we knew

While I agree that alcohol is a poison, I do think it's going to involve more nuisance than a one size fits all solution of "Having a drink = cancer".

Trying to keep up with all the experts will kill you faster than anything
Don't worry be happy
Stay away from weed, booze etc just let the stress kill you so that we can keep all this bullshit going full steam ahead.

Sugar = Feces

It’s over simplified, but I will die on that hill.

Hope this helps.

Pardon me while I smoke a bowl post chemo treatment. @haie

My dad NEVER smoke, NEVER drank, I don't know what vices he ever had or things he enjoyed besides like "family". Getting him to laugh was a chore. Political humor was about it.
He only made it to 74 with a host of shit wrong with him. Parkinsons for starters, but high blood pressure plus a few mini strokes. Diet could have been better no doubt, but don't think that would have stopped Parkinsons.

all things in moderation which means something different from one guy to The next unless you have an addictive personality and then you’re just fucked.
