Tui being named interim is VERY telling in the coaching search

Along with the news of Keith Heyward heading to SC with Sark, this tells me Wilcox is not a candidate. If he was even in the running, he would be the shoe-in interim HC. Also, if Wilcox is not a candidate, neither is Nussmeier. Wilcox would have at least gotten a look had he been an option, but that's clearly not the case and Woodward is looking outside the coordinator world. Very good news IMO.

Couple names I've heard mentioned along with the obvious Petersen, Deruyter, etc. are Bill O'Brien from PSU and Gary Patterson from TCU. I'd go full-doog for Gary Patterson.

Goes along with what I've been thinking/saying the whole time. Woodward's gonna pull something nobody expected out of his ass and make a big name hire.

O'Brien is getting paid over 3 million and has a big buy out. That's a lot of money for a relatively unproven coach, although he does look like a good one. I would be okay with Patterson as well, despite his struggles since moving to the Big 12.

Defensive genius. Has more than enough head coaching experience. Shit he won a goddamn Rose Bowl at TCU. He's far and away my top choice as of now.
 
Only thing about Patterson is that he already has a pretty damn good deal at TCU. They're a private institution so they don't have to release numbers, but he's making around $3m, so I think we'd have to go up to around the $4m range we were hearing with Mora. Open up the checkbooks Woody.

All day i've been pissed over the fact that he is gonna hire Nuss/Wilcox and i was never stepping foot in Husky Stadium again.

Patterson, Whittingham, Petersen, DeRuyter...would all probably do reasonably well with UW's talent level. A likely improvement over Seven anyway. But if you're gonna go that route...gimme Bohl.

He could be reeled in for a lot less...releasing more money for assistants (provided he didn't want to bring his whole staff from NDSU), he's tougher than 3 day old overcooked steak and there is the uncanny NDSU connection to Gil Dobie. Just my fucking $0.02
 
I'm surprised guys who normally get it like YaleDawg and GoldDawg are worried about assistants. I like Heyward, but who gives a shit about a DB coach? It's been proven position coaches hardly matter. Coaches from Ty's staff have coached in national title games and other BCS bowl games. All that matters at this point is hiring a great head coach.

It might be the doog in me but I do. I think we're all underestimating who he's looking at. It's my hope, at least, that Petersen and Deruyter are further down on the list than even most people here have them. I think he's looking into some big name guys. Especially with the amount of time it's taking. If he was gonna go the Nuss route it would be done by now.
