The Democrats and Joe Biden himself with their/his arrogance decided to run again like it was a good idea. Been saying it for years, if Newsome was the candidate, Trump would get slaughtered. The handoff should have been made years ago.
The Republicans and Donald Trump himself also with their own arrogance thought it would be a good idea to run Donald Trump again. That was also a mistake.

I voted for Clinton twice largely for immigration being in construction. He was Trump before Trump. Check the speeches. The GOP wanted cheap labor and had a pipe dream that illegals would end up voting GOP
I really have voted policy over personality. I don't think Trump is some savior or great human being. But his policies are better by a country mile. Too bad there is no political party to back him
