Canada and Europe already have tariffs on US cars.Bob you understand…if a Canadian good is selling lower than a corresponding American good and you place a tariff on it, then the Canadian good rises on par with the American good. The net result:So who pays the tariff on a Canadian good that has a very competitive and price sensitive market for consumer sales?
-Canadian company gets hurt as they will sell less
-American consumers get hurt as they will pay more
-American companies may or may not benefit as consumers will buy less of that good
People are already at the limit…if you wanna decimate the automobile industry, by all means implement your tariff and see if people will tolerate any kind of percentage increase in cars.
Trump wont do this….this is an empty threat to look tough on the world stage.
(But by all means put a tariff on Canadian lumber. I wanna see my homes’ market value fly through the roof)
People forget Canada tariffs the shit out of tuff liberal US cut timber. The auto industry is moving back to America. That's called winning
Trump just unleashed lumber production on American land
You really ought to keep up with current events not democrat talking points
Why are people at the limit? Biden had a great economy according to Amazon line workers
Why does Canada have such high tariffs on US goods and why do you support that? How about both countries get rid of them which is what Trump is doing via strength not your weak loser attitude
like most issues, the outrage is just a blanket resistance against anything Trump does. there's no logic behind itPeople forget Canada tariffs the shit out of tuff liberal US cut timber. The auto industry is moving back to America. That's called winning

Not sure what all the outrage is at reciprocal tariffs. You show me yours, I'm going to whip out at least the same. Someone 'splain why that is so wrong.
I believe he's in the woke party. NDP or something. No surprise.
Protectionism works for everyone but the US.Trump actually talked about access to markets along with tariffs
Our Bob_C had this first
Still playing with fire though if it causes too much inflation for 26 and 28... even if it is the right thing to do long termAn overlooked aspect is on taxes. A Canadian or European company that has no US presence and just moves products to the US pays $0 to the IRS for its sales made into the US. And we let that happen. Try shipping something to Europe. You get VAT assessed ~20% with no clawback potential in addition to any tariffs. Your only option to be able to clawback the VAT is to setup a corp there and then pay local income taxes. Total imbalance. If you want to test in European markets, it basically makes no economic sense to start small and attempt to directly compete against them. Europe gets their tax money if you dare compete.
Would also add, good luck getting a bank account setup in the country that you setup your Corp.
At this point, you're just a fucking liar. Please don’t address me until you’ve addressed that debt you owe me. Thanks. You import rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong and sell it on Amazon.I work for a fortune 10 company so I have plenty knowledge in this area thanks. I have more international trade experience in my Johnson than this entire board combined
It is not realistic to have US companies purchase parts, merchandise, in America and allow them to compete. Anyone who believes this is dumb as dirt/EverettChris.
.
Like i said long term it may be the right thing... but if inflation is 4 or 5% in November 26 or 28 the GOP will lose seats. We are only playing with fire now because we’ve allowed the ripoff to become the baseline.
