I mean in 1981 his system would have been even further ahead of it's tim so yeah they probably would have dominated. It's not like Mariota and James were superstar recruits that had always been out of Oregon's league. Kelly just knew how to position them for success.

Now we’re rewriting history to cope. With what I don’t know.

Here’s what happened. Oregon decided to spend and market beyond anything the west coast had seen and that was followed by their most successful period by a mile on the field.

I guess it was just a coincidence though.
