To all the youngsters

For some reason, when I was a kid I loved the Philadelphia 76ers. When they lost to the Lakers in the finals when I was 11, I remember crying like a bitch with my face buried in my pillow. I hated the Lakers.

Then they went and signed Moses Malone, and won it all the next season over the Lakers. That was auce.

I'd shoot baskets in front of our house for hours and hours, in all sorts of weather, pretending to be #22 Andrew Toney

It’s rewarding when you follow a team for a random reason and they break thru. I liked the Dirk and Steve Nash Dallas Mavericks teams and they would always lose in the playoffs. It was very fun for me to follow them the year they beat Miami in the Finals because I had followed the journey and it had a payoff.

Years ago on a treadmill watching classic NBA. The 77 series against Portland. I swear in the game he had like 6 absolute posters that almost made me lose my footing on the treadmill. The fact he is still getting endorsements all these years later says something.

He made dunking an artform. Could you imagine peak Erving in a dunk contest?

Erving, Dominque, Jordan, and 2000 Vince Carter.

In my opinion, this is the greatest dunk of all-time. I also laugh at how he almost punched Garnett in the face by mistake afterwards.

There is video of the ABA dunk contest that started it all

Doctor J and Skywalker David Thompson

The Doctor was legend before 81 percent of fans ever saw him

If one was really really lucky, on occasion CBS back in the early-/mid-70's would show an ABA game.

Dr. J was an urban myth before he set down in the NBA for the most part.

The Sonics signed Skywalker Thompson in the mid 80s after he had been banned for cocaine use. He made his final comeback with us. Based on my memory, we started 9-0, then went down the shitter. Thompson relapsed and was out of the league.

I literally remember listening to this on my radio under the covers when I was supposed to be asleep. Bob Blackburn on the call. 1982

Skywalker is a great nickname for a high flyer.

Thompson and Burleson beat Wooden and Walton in the final four

No one else can say that

Saw David Thompson, Burleson, Ron Lee and a team of college all-stars take on the Russian National Team in an exhibition during the Spokane World's Fair in 1974.

I watched the Thrilla in Manila on closed circuit at the UPS field house

Tommy Burleson came and sat in front of me
