Errybody's solo these days, but rap groups were actually a thing back in the day. Which one was greatest?

I went NWA for influence and impact, but Wu Tang definitely has the superior body of work.

Gotta go with the Wu, but they're almost a category of one. I know there's a bunch of children on this bored, still don't forget about Run-DMC. Influential musically, and perhaps more so culturally by starting to mainstream hip hop.

The correct answer is NWA when you consider the impact and solo careers of the members. I always loved bone thugs sound, there's nothing really like them. Seems like whenever they touch a track as a featured artist it takes the music to another level. "Notorious Thugs" with Biggie is one of the greatest songs all time.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five

No doubt. I spent more time listening to Bone than the rest of them combined. I think they're underrated these days for whatever reason. Probably because they're from Leaveland (lol!).

And shame on you for leaving out Run DMC and the Beastie Boys.
I thought about Run DMC but I didn't want to go a mile long. Beastie Boys would have won the pole rather easily with all these cracka ass crackas around so I couldn't include them.

Is that James Franco on the left?

Also, craves it, no, yes, down low, doesn't discriminate which hole he puts it in, craves it.

Beastie Boys, particularly Paul's Boutique.

Listen to KEXP tomorrow, they are playing the album and every song sampled on the album. Interviews with the band and the Dust Brothers.

Yikes a lot of Twisting going on in this thread.

I'm not going to say Wu Tang by a landslide but they are the best. Some of the best albums ever. 36 Chambers, Cuban Linx, Liquid Swords (personal favorite), Tical, 4:21 The Day After, Wu Tang Forever, Iron Flag, Fishscale, Legend of the Liquid Sword... Too many amazing albums to rattle off.

Method Man to this day is still one of the best live performances I have ever seen. Maybe it was partially due to having a blunt passed to me ever 10 seconds but still.

NWA based on sheer success of the individual members/group sure... But the Monks of Shaolin get my vote.

Oh and where the fuck is the love for one of the greatest Hip Hop bands of all time THE ROOTS.

Great poont on The Roots, definitely a worthwhile addition to the list.

Such a tough call between Bone Thugs and Wu-Tang for me. I like the solo stuff from Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy E better than the stuff on NWA albums, but it's hard not to pick them too. Cypress Hill deservedly didn't get any votes, but they are good too. Geto Boys should be on the list.

2 Live Crew is pretty weak. I guess it's fun party music, but they suck. I've never been into Public Enemy either.
