Read a Huff Po piece from 2014 that estimates between 60-80% of under 18 girls are raped on their journey to the border. Probably a bullshit number, but I don’t write the rules. So unless the cartels have softened, why would we assume that raw volume of people headed to the border doesn’t lead to more rapes?

I read the Huffpo article and while the links to the studies are dead, I’m willing to concede those numbers. I think we’d all agree there has been some exaggerating of rape statistics but you could cut those numbers in half and it would still be horrible.

How does making it safer for them to cross eliminate rapes leading up to them crossing? If it was “safer” wouldn’t even more rapes occur as even more people would be trying? Cruelty would be putting sharks in the Rio Grande.

Just because you can imagine something worse doesn’t mean it’s not cruel.

This is a pretty consistent disagreement between right and left. When it comes to things like immigration or abortion, the right prefers to be extremely heavy handed, to the point that IMO it crosses into cruel and unusual.
