I remember back in college professors claiming about how we would run out of oil by the year 2012, the average temperature would rise a zillion degrees due to greenhouse gases, and one specifically even started crying because his kids would grow up not knowing what a glacier would look like because they would all be gone and California would be fucked because of it. 2014 was the hottest year on average in history, America's glaciers are shrinking, and the fracking revolution is based on increasing fossil fuel inputs to get reduced returns over the long term. But other than that, spot on.

How long have records been kept compared to the billions thousands of years that earth has existed?
