It's such a unique look into a life that was only 100 years ago but seems so much farther. There is going to be a massive failure of an operation that will lead to the death of 1,600 young men. Let's send 2 brothers across battlefields to deliver the message to stop. Today, I could literally send a text message that says "Hey yeah, so that thing you were going to do? Don't, it'll end bad".

History just fascinates me. We lead such privileged lives compared to our ancestors. The shit they fucking went through and more often than not didn't survive. I'd be scared shitless to face 1/100th of what they did.

True dat. They were TUFF! back then. I remember reading Undaunted Courage and thinking how uncomfortable in inclement weather the Lewis and Clark party must’ve been in clothes made of leather buckskin, wool, and linen. No prissy REI Gore-Tex.

Yes. We need mor WW1 flicks about the MEN (not ones) who had to win in the trenches. Football more than other sports is like WW1 trench warfare you know. It’s why @oregonblitzkrieg doesnt win.

It was pretty surreal to see actual footage of WWI in the trenches.

One of my Dad's is a former Marine. Vietnam era. Went to Parris Island summer of 1961. One of his Drill Instructors (I forget the name though he told me) was a crusty 1000 yard stare Gunnery Sergeant who was at Chosin. Snow white head of hair. In his 30's. When the recruits were no longer whale shit around week 8, he sat them all down in the barracks one night and told them the stories about dragging as many dead as they could through the snow while fighting their way past divisions of Chinese in sub zero temperatures. Ammo ran out and so they were fighting with Kbars and hand to hand by the end. After knifing some chinaman to death, it was back to dragging your friends dead bodies through the snow. He told them that the first night they were encircled and the real nasty fighting started, that when the sun went down he had light brown hair, when the sun came up it had gone stark white. That's sheer terror.

Dad said he was the most legit man he ever met. Now go look at your average skinny jean wearing mid-20's fuckface. Weep for our future.
