Yes they are transitioning to a new system. IT guys have been here all week... and i trust the nurses that are no longer wearing their masks as much over you.
Point is it's not gone, and mandates being lifted are for political expediency. I know many nurses who said masks were bullshit in most situations and I know some who lost their jobs over vaccine mandates.
If you believe masks made any measurable difference, you believe a lie. Look no further than deaths by state and rationalize states that did very little as far as mandates/lockdowns go and those that lockdown hard.
People I talk to here in woke King County like to bring up the low death rate in Washington as an example that it all worked. Would you rather be Florida they ask?
I answer I’d rather be Utah than Washington, which has an even lower death rate than Washington and had very little mask mandates and has low vaccine uptake in general.
There are tons of one on one comparables that can make points for both sides. But on the whole that just means there is no correlation between policy and outcomes. So you and I were right.
Exactly. You look at the deaths by state and you can’t correlate them with mandates. There are other variables to consider. For example, when saying Florida has a worse outcome then Washington, no one is adjusting for the age of the population. When looking at Mississippi’s poor outcomes, no one is adjusting for obesity and race.
The Johns Hopkins study showed no material effect of lockdowns and mandates. If there were, that data would be pretty clear. The Great Barrington Declaration was spot on about our failed CDC approach to the chicom crud. Then toss in the intentional decision not to consider collateral effects of the lockdowns and mandates - suicide, addiction, weight gain, lost medical treatment and a lost close to two years of education and socialization for the kids. Why US small businesses should have been destroyed because old people and those with serious comorbidities could feel good the vast majority of Americans who had no more of a risk than from the regular H1N1 flu also had to be isolated is a question that the left doesn't want to answer.

This weekend two years ago I published the first ad in the Star Tribune expressing alarm at the policies adapted to fight the Covid-19 epidemic. The themes set forth in that ad have guided my education and advocacy efforts and my subsequent columns in that newspaper from the start of the epidemic. And the concerns expressed and the rationales for those concerns have been largely proven correct.
Respiratory virus transmission is impossible to stop — a lesson New Zealand, Hong Kong and China are still learning. Attempts to suppress the spread are futile. Such measures usually lead to unintended (perhaps, but certainly predictable) consequences that can be more devastating than the virus itself.
Normal life is upended, worsening health for those who are most ill, isolating the already lonely elderly, destroying educational and social development for children, leading to more drug and alcohol abuse and greater mental health issues. These harms go on for years and decades. None of this was mysterious or unknown. Any thoughtful, calm, rational response would have recognized these basic facts and issues. But instead we were served a hysterical, lemming-like overreaction which in the end did not protect most of the population from being infection or many from serious disease.
On behalf of the public, I would like an apology from those responsible for the disastrous handling of the epidemic response.
