Category 1: Bought their airfare, hotels, etc. Ticket broker let them know this week they oversold and they don't have a ticket for them (but they will reimburse them for the ticket price). Seriously fucked up.
Category 2: They are dirt poor. Credit card companies are gonna clean up this year in western Washington.

The 2 categories have nothing to do with each other but I do find it slightly interesting

Some of the 12s in category 2 have to be seriously FS and impulsive. I just don't get their thinking. The tickets are insane for people outside of Chatch's income bracket.

I couldn't justify spending $2500-$3200 on one ticket, let alone $10000+ for better seats. I make pretty good money. My priorities are to put money away from retirement and I put away at least 2000/month cash for future investments (most likely real estate for when the missus and I retire).

It's all about priorities. Most of these people don't have them straight. That's why they are dirt poor and they are going to end up eating dog food when they're retired.

I can just watch the game at home and be happy.
 
At a bare minimum, I figure one would need to spend about $3,300 for one person for everything. So double that for a couple. Most of them will blow money at the casinos and buy stupid shit so some will easily blow at least five grand. Even if these tuff liberal union 12s make $90 k per year, that's a big chunk after taxes.

Don't get me wrong, fan support and as much noise as possible is great.

The NFL also charges you a pretty penny for all the activities they have leading up to the game. The whole NFL Experience stuff isn't cheap.

Maybe if I was a multi millionaire, I'd spend for the Super Bowl.

Fan support is definitely great. But, as you mentioned, most fans aren't doing much better financially than Big Lo & Sea Hulk.

I'm in Arizona at the moment.

I used miles to fly down here ... total cost = $11

My buddy got our rental car free through our work ... total cost after taxes = $80

We are staying at my buddy's in-laws ... total cost = me buying a nice bottle of wine at some point

Tickets to the Waste Management Phoenix Open = $30

Cost of Parking Pass for Tomorrow's Super Bowl = $50 (hey UW, pay attention to that when it comes to the $30-$40 you charge per game for parking)

Moral of the story is that you can get down here and not spend a crazy amount of money.

I would have paid up to $3k for a ticket ... I was hoping to get one for $2,500 or less. It'd be a bucket less item for me and I'm ok spending money for that kind of stuff. When I realized that tickets were going far north of that and that they weren't going to come down ... I realized that the odds of getting a ticket were slim to none and I became ok with the idea. I'll enjoy being around the Super Bowl tomorrow and watch the game nearby ... should be fun either way.
 
You can get a ticket at kick off under face value. My old boss used to that

Yesterday, on stubhub, the cheapest game ticket fell from $10,115 to $7115. Today as of right now, it's back over $11,000 and a parking pass is up over $150
