The Offseason Natty Thread: Portals, Assistant Coaches, Leopard Jackets, etc.

Yeah it’s getting concerning. No big hires (unless you want to count the Michigan guy, not really a coach though). No recruit flips, several decommits, filling the staff with Fresno retreads. If you can’t recruit coaches you probably can’t recruit players. Not optimistic anymore.

I feel this. But why would Morgan, who seems to know recruiting based on his connections and data of securing good to elite commits, leave Michigan and team with DeBoer if DeBoer didn't prioritize recruiting?

2 very good reasons...

1) Money
2) Working for Harbuagh sucks

Would you swap Schmit for Malloe? Ruth says we just did that. I know nothing about Schimt, but I know he's not poly and it's dumbass to piss off polys.

Malloe is a weird one. He has been a decent recruiter after starting shitty and then going on a pretty good run. I might be wrong but the DL play has been pretty forgettable with all these big name recruits.

It's not only been forgettable, it's been fucking atrocious. It's becoming pretty clear, especially with their NFL success, that Vea and Gaines were generational DTs for us and that Malloe's bag of tricks were empty once those two left.

ATBS, Schmidt inspires no confidence for almost entirely racial reasons. And he has almost no recruiting cred from his time at Fresno. Woof.

LIPO with Schmidt, who gives a fuck that he looks like he posts here. Fresno’s D was pretty good against the run last year, and Malloe hasn’t done anything of note since signing Tunuufi.

Chin for the laugh there.

I think it's worth pointing out that, yet again, Malloe didn't corch the DL this year. He was OLB. It's chinteresting that the position group took a big dip immediately after he was moved. Maybe it would have happened anyway and the problem was systemic, but none of Malloe's DL units were bad.

Good as his DL was in the golden days, Tuli, Taki and Tui haven’t improved a lick since their first snaps. Also I’ve heard a lot of talk that Kwat was really hands on with the DL when he was here.

I need guys who follow this closer than I to let me know why I should hate this.

It’s an upgrade over Cato. He was TE coach for DeBoers offense at Indiana when that offense was clicking. I don’t hate it.

Imagine using "its an upgrade over Cato" as your reasoning not to hate it.

No, it’s that he was the TE coach when DeBoer was their OC and their offense functioned well.

But yeah, my expectations have been crushed. He sucks until he doesn’t.

I’m not going to pretend I don’t care, but it’s amazing how much assistant coaches are cared about nowadays.
