The Mount Rushmore of UW Huskies coaches

Lambo was given credit for James putting in the 46 defense in 1989 and the run that followed

As a head coach his defense got worse every year
James had a sign in his office: "Isn't it great what can be accomplished when nobody cares who gets the credit."

I was young but I don't ever remember anyone lauded Lambo as a genius, more of a gruff hardnosed defense guy, but I could be wrong. It's overplayed, but Fisch also had an upward trajectory as an actual head coach when he was hired at UW. As far back as I know I don't think UW has really hired a guy like Fisch.
Genius may be too strong, but Lambo definitely was labeled as a bigtime creative mind as a defensive coach back in the late 80's/early 90's.

Hoffmann once talked about how Lambo would teach the linebackers how to read the offensive line as a unit, like an animal with moving parts.

It's a good point that no one knew shit about Judd as an assistant/coordinator. He really wheel dealed his way into that Arizona job. Lambo actually deserved a head coaching job based on his work as a coordinator, it's just unfortunate it was at Washington.
