The Knowledge’s 🏀 UW hoops mega thread

I watched that game between customers in the back kitchen of the Boston Market in Wallingford. A little black and white TV running off bunny ear antenna. I believe I yelled HOLY FUCK!!! when Hamilton hit the shot. Sorry if any of you guys were having a quarter chicken that night. My bad.

I'm such a doog that I still actually kind of #Believe he can be one of those coaches that fucked up a bit moving up a conference but still has time to get his reads down. The team played hard while completely gassed but who knows maybe it was just auditioning for their next school.
If Sprinkle can convince Zoom, Traore, Muldrew, JJ, Rencher and Dzepenia to come back it could go a long way to actually building something with a level of continuity. Maybe Ognacevic gets a medical waiver. He only logged like 150 minutes this year. I also think this team will be very European or African heavy next year. Not one HS recruit. Sprinkle wants those academy kids from overseas. If everyone bails this thing is toast. Might be anyway.

I was always a half chicken guy. #morecockus

That's seems pretty doable. Guys were playing for him at the end, imo. I don't think Steinbach or anyone else had a problem with him that we'd actually want back (I know he's gone to the NBA). I don't want Claude and Pederson back obviously, and Yates maybe wants to stay but he should lose minutes.

There’s still massive talent in Seattle/Tacoma.

Rainier Beach has two #1 in their class recruits. Lincoln has the #1 PG in next years class.

UW is simply so inept that it is not even in the conversation any longer for the one and dones.
Kid from Spokane just beat Kansas on a last second layup.

UW hates Washington.

Petty from Rainer Beach plays a bunch for Texas Tech. Averages 10 points, 4 rebounds and shoots almost 39% on 3’s as a true freshman. Better stats than Muldrew and Mandaquitt. Not saying that neither of those guards will pan out but when a kid like Petty is right in your back yard they really should have tried harder to keep him home.

Gotta get it going next year. Keep Zoom and get a good team in next year.

We can’t shoot and we aren’t very athletic. Bad combination. I was watching St. John’s and Kansas. St. John’s is absolutely terrible shooting but has size and athletes. Other teams aren’t all that athletic but can shoot.

The other thing I’m noticing in the tournament is how important PG’s are in college basketball. It’s a water is wet statement, but the ball moves with the good teams and when it doesn’t, their PG makes shit happen. Michigan State, Purdue, and Iowa State get good looks almost every time down. All have very good PG’s.

Zoom is good, but he’s a 2nd or third option on a good team. He should be locking guards down and slashing. I’m not sure he’s a lead guard that will lead us anywhere special. We still need him to stay, don’t twist.

Getting a big guy that doesnt have bricks for hands and can maybe even dribble and pass a little bit is needed too.

Yates gotta go. He’s nothing special.

Team needs a wing that can defend multiple positions and add length. If I were Steinbach I'd play another year of college hoops. Uncertain if that is here. Mostly from a pro perspective his lack of consistent outside shooting is the difference between he and say Marquese Chriss who demonstrated the ability to stretch the floor. He has a ton of other tools and of course those he struggles with, going pro can help you focus on building those skills but I worry about ability to stay on a roster.

Why would you pls another year if you were Steinbach? He’s a first round pick. Some have him in the lottery. The last pick in the first round gets 2.7 million in year one.

Chriss has no basketball IQ. He was in foul trouble every game. Steinbach is at worst a quality back up big in the NBA. He’s playing for 10 years. There is no point for him to stay.

Like I've been saying, Steinbach's the kind of euro that ends up on Boston or San Antonio in a role for 10-20 seasons.

I haven’t given up on JJ being a good/great PG. If he can become a decent, 36-38%, shooter from 3 and continue to develop that little floater in the lane he won’t be a complete offensive liability. Sprinkle could never really play JJ and Frank at the same time because it was like playing offense 3 on 5. Agree on Yates, I think he’s a pretty darn good defender but the insistence on shooting a gazillion 3’s when he’s a very effective driver is mind numbing. I think I saw enough of Muldrew to imagine he can give you the defense of Yates while being a better team first guy on the offensive end. Hannes should be gone, probably is gone, but in that Chum interview with Capel he said they’re still waiting on his decision. Chum brought Hannes up in a question about player retention/portal, not Capel, that gives me a sliver of hope.

Drew Timme. Need I say more? Second contract > first contract. If you're bounced to the D / G League, that doesn't seem as promising. He will likely wait to see who declares after the tournament. That 1st round can easily shift to 2nd round with more announcements. He's a great player college player who needs to work on his game.
