The Huskies are in the playoff race

I don’t think there's enough runway left for UW to make the playoffs.
The CFP rankings place UW too far back with too many other 2 loss teams ranked ahead.

Keep in mind that UW needs to finish in the top 10 to make the playoff. Not only does a G6 team take a spot, but it's very likely an ACC champ will finish outside the top 10. The highest ACC team is Virginia at #14. They suck, as do GT, Miami, and Louisville.
How can a 10-2 Washington make the CFP with only 1 decent opponent left on the schedule? I don't see it.
I think it more likely the B1G is only getting 2 teams this year.

This will be an unpopular take…
But I would almost prefer to see Washington knock off Miami or Tennessee in the Holiday Bowl (or whatever) to finish the season on a positive note and with double digit wins, than getting thrashed 41-10 by Georgia or Ole Miss in the first round of the playoffs. (And that is based on UW winning out the regular season, of course).
If I felt this team had a puncher's chance to go deep in the playoffs, I would see things differently of course.

As an old school person myself, I get the appeal, but I think in this era "making the playoff" is a feather you want in your cap (if you can get it).
But is it old school? The Milwaukee Brewers made the National League Championship Series for the first time in like 42 years and got swept 4 games to 0. They will be remembered as losers.
Are we really going to be remembered as "winners" for winning a totally meaningless and excluded from the "real" postseason bowl game that almost moved to Riyadh?

These are barely even "Spring Games" anymore, especially with opt-outs stacked on there.

Basically I'm indifferent. I don't remember any of the non-playoff bowl games and their results anymore honestly.

Washington needs Illinois to win out and finish 9-3 and ranked, which they could. Ohio State to win out, or win everything besides Michigan. Michigan to win out other than Ohio State.
Tons of teams above UW will lose. Washington has to be perfect in November.
Oregon vs Washington will get a lot of hype as a big end of season matchup. Washington would be top 15 and Oregon likely top 5.
Win that convincingly and UW is very likely in the playoffs with a solid resume, having lost to #1 Ohio State and on the road at top 20 ish Michigan. Wins over top 25 Illinois and top 5 Oregon.

I was 'bout to say … this system is cooked up by the SEC & BIG … there will never be a time when only 2 teams gets in from either of those leagues.

10-2 UW with losses to Ohio State and Michigan isn't getting left out of anything. Doesn't even matter if Oregon and Illinois drop more games.
I will even Doog so far as to say that Finebaum and those fucking SEC chuds wouldn't even complain about it. Nobody is taking anybody seriously that thinks that a 10-2 program that was in the 4 team playoff and national title 2 years ago is undeserving.

I said it was more likely that B1G gets only 2 teams than UW making the playoff.
Meaning UW has next to zero chance.

There are 8 two-loss teams outside the top 10 ahead of UW.
The odds none of those 8 finishing 10-2 is close to zero.
Further, UW isn't going to move up 13 spots with only 1 decent team left on the schedule. You have to finish top 10.
Further, a 9-3 Texas gets in ahead of UW. They finish with Georgia and A&M. Win 1 of those, they're in.
Sorry.

Wrong.
I just explained it.

Oh okay, you explained it.
The 1 scenario that UW wouldn't make it in you didn't even outline either piece of. And clearly nobody here thinks that edge case has a chance of happening.

If UW wins out they are 3rd in the B1G unless Michigan fucks Ohio State again
Oregon needs to beat Iowa and its lined up
I just explained it

With all due respect, it's really hard to respect that take. "I would rather look good and try and (somewhat fraudulently) convince people I'm elite than take a image risk by trying to do something actually good and become actually elite."
But you're not the only one around here who thinks that way, so you're far from alone. And doogman is a forum basically comprised of that population.
It's loser'ish though. Sorry, but it is. You play to win not hope you get some matchup that you can brag about years later when nobody remembers that the big name you played actually kinda sucked that year.
And, no, I'm not saying that because you used Miami in your example.

A lot of those two loss teams would have worse resumes, and a lot of them will lose.
I don't think a single two loss team would have a better resume than UW if UW wins out.
Also, fuck off

All these fucking hypotheticals about keeping paying Jedd big bucks now are fucking aids.
I don't give a fuck if UCLA has an opening (plus sunshine) or if Florida has an opening (plus sunshine). You don't bet the future of the program on 6-2 with no 10 ft birdie putts made, Jedd.
There's a huge delta between his worth to the program between 8-4 and 10-2 and both are still very much on the table.
LIPO.
The UCLA talk is crazy to me unless you want to get paid, enjoy the weather and have no expectations. That place is a project now and Washington is a way better job if you're a real coach.

I get the we don't want to sneak in and get blown out thought, but I think you're overvaluing the teams that will be around the 5 and 6 seed. Ohio State and Indiana are the only teams this year which have shown the consistent ability to blow out decent teams. Alabama and Georgia for example have constantly played down to opponents. Mississippi and A&M are crazy suspect. Then you have the Big 12 drek.
This isn't 2023 where you have teams like the Georgia and Oregon teams of that year hanging out at 5 who would shovelfuck this UW team, especially in their home stadium. This field doesn't even have a 2024 Ohio State lurking at 8.
The Playoffs are all that matters. Get there and see what happens and it's not like we are 2023 where it will be the end of a run, Even if UW gets bullied on the road the narrative will be look out for this team, and Demond in 2026 (at Florida).

@PostGameOrangeSlices
If they're already ahead of UW, how will they have worse resumes?
UW plays 3 awful teams and 1 maybe good team. I'm confident Oregon will lose at least once before the game in Seattle.
I just think there are way too many "this needs to happen" outcomes not involving UW just winning out for it to make the playoff.
You all should be pissed at the pollsters. UW sitting outside the top 25 for so long created a recency bias that spilled over inti the CFP rankings.
Frigging Utah is #13 at 7-2. Is there a reason Utah is 10 spots ahead of UW? Blown out by Texas Tech. Couldn't beat Y at home. Look at the other 2 loss teams. Try to make sense of it. I can't, except for Oklahoma.

At some point UW needs to pay the money to keep the coach. If Fisch goes 9-3 or better, pay him.
I think they would've paid DeBoer after 2023 but he didn't negotiate.
Bullshit
Pay the guy after the guy
Brilliant
Stop making excuses. You were one who wasn't sure 25-3 was worth the money
Let Fisch go too. Who cares?
So take the approach to watch the guy after the guy walk just so you don't pay the guy after the guy
As usual … you're full of shit
You another admin honk who didn't want to pay Deboer
Your opinion is worthless as always
Save money and hire another cheap guy.
Find one single example where I ever said "don't pay DeBoer" or "hire a cheaper coach"
You can't
You never will be able to find me advocating for that
Anybody that pays attention will be able to readily conclude that I'm not a fan nor friend of the UW Athletic Department, its Administration, or upper campus.
Of course, since you're asleep at the wheel as usual living in your own delusion you wouldn't be able to recognize that

Obviously the goal is to win a championship any year and that requires a playoff birth. That being said, creeping into the playoffs with a team you know has zero chance doesn’t excite me.
This obviously is a roster that has enough gaps that it isn't winning 4 games in the CFP … we all should see that
There's a lot of comparables to the 2022 roster at this point … so the "getting in" part would be a positive in helping to identify what is needed for 2026 to actually make a run if we were to get in at that point
If the standard is thinking that anything less than a national championship is success then you're going to find yourself disappointed quite often.
There's a path for this team to finish the year in the Top 10-15 range … given what this roster looked like in the 2024 offseason getting back to that range in the matter of 12-18 months is worth acknowledging and viewing as a success
