I'm probably in the minority but I don't see the need to take an OL in the portal. Maybe 1 if he is a higher level guy but the staff seems to prefer to build through high school recruiting. UW returns 12 scholarship OL and will probably take 5 or 6 in the 2025 class so that will put them at 17 or 18.
I guess it could be possible that Memmelaar medically retires and then they would take a portal OL to fill his spot but he appears as though he has shaken the injury bug.
Instead, it would be better for them to focus the finite NIL resources on two portal DTs since the recruiting for that position was so underwhelming in the 2021 and 2022 classes.

did visit udub twice. I thought at one point he was on woof watch.

Sounds like we missed on a few other guys and are taking Langi. Huffman had a less than glowing taking on his skill set

He’s definitely not a tackle at the next level. I do like his power and when he latches onto guys he looks to pretty easily over power them. I think he could develop into a solid guard. He needs to get in shape.

He is like the other end of Elijah Jackett…a pretty high ceiling due to his frame but needs two years in a college program to realize it. Jackett has needed to put on 40 pounds while Langi will need to lose 40 pounds of bad weight. Maybe that's why some schools cooled on him, because it looks like he has gotten bigger (fat) since his JR year.

If you’re talking about the SMU tackle I’m thinking he was a supply and demand risk. In Spring there was low supply and high demand. Maybe Fish and Carrol put a number on this kids skill and when Missouri went past that number because they were going “all in” this year they said thanks but no thanks. Correct me if I’m wrong, Missouri has taken a step back this year and SMU doesn’t seem to be missing this “great” OT they lost. The optics were bad because UW was desperate but I think the SMU kid was probably closer to Max McCree than Troy Fautano.

I don’t know that I buy the theory that udub only has enough donors and NIL dollars to make a big run every few years. They were just a few bought players away from looking at a 10/11 win season. Couple lineman, couple d lineman, and a leader in the back of this D and they don’t lose two bullshit games they should never lose and don’t lose to the team with all white guys. I’m not saying we? beat Indiana, pedo st, and whoregon at that point but they are in a position to do so and sneak into the playoff. They probably get ass blasted at that point but if fish is this great fucking coach, and can start coaching like it, he can develop, and then actually get his top targets for need, why can’t they stay towards the top?
I think I’m on a manic high right now because this shit almost feels positive. Sorry.

Don't forget that, due to DeBoer bailing after the NC game, UW missed the first portal window where the best players entered and landed with teams. It was great UW got Valdez and Azzopardi but they were blind sided by Kalepo, Brailsford, and Buelow leaving. It's invariably difficult to replace 3 SEC quality OL in the 2nd portal opening and the best UW could do was get a back-up OG from Ohio State (who is now 2nd string) and a starting Center who is local from Portland State (and who has been a pleasant surprise).
Regarding NIL, I have heard UW is at about $10 million and needs another $10 million if they want to be top tier. Even another $5 million would go a long way and might even keep guys like Ploog from flipping to Phil Knight. Why else would a recruit go to a crappy school in a crappy location if not for money?

It was a Spring portal rebuild only. The amount of players you’re talking about weren’t there to be had. Waaaay more players in the winter portal makes for a more competitive market. Supply is higher. People buying in spring are plugging a hole due to injury or lack of development and will pay a premium for a missing piece. Most aren’t looking to rebuild an entire roster. LIPO, if Fishdicks flails in the next portal then UW is poors and this thing may never get off the ground again.

Azzapardi IMO is a below average Big10 T … way too often when I'm watching him play he's on the wrong side of blocks and lacks the foot speed to block NFL caliber edges (the Penn St game was not good). Perhaps moving him inside you could find value or utility for but I'm not convinced he's a starter next year.
Hatchett probably has an inside track to starting at Center next year … he's probably the closest guy that I'd have to being in dark pencil
I think you could make a good argument that Paki Finau may be starting at one of the G spots … at the very least he's likely in the rotation so you can probably put him in pencil as part of the 7-8 guys that will play
The 2 RS Frosh that played T this year have had their ups and downs … I'm not sure either of them are LTs (at least not at this point) and probably require a move to either RT or to the inside to play next year (both Buelow and Kalepo were T's that eventually moved inside). So I'm probably looking at bringing in a T (likely a LT) and another interior guy (preferably someone that has both C/G experience).

He's starting next year and has a ceiling as a Heisman contender … he'll get 7 figures next year regardless of how he performs at Oregon

I asked Roman Tomanshoff on twatters if he had info/insight on Memelaar’s plans for next year. Said he hadn’t heard anything beyond him walking at Senior night but thinks he’ll be back. Take it for what it’s worth.

I'm all for bringing in a guy or two if they are good and the staff sees a need. This is how I see the OL next year:
LT: SR McCree / RS-Soph Tafai / RS-Soph Jackett
LG: RS-Frosh Finau OR Portal
C: JR Hatchett / RS-Soph Henning
RG: SR Memmelar / RS-Frosh Watkins
RT: JR Azzopardi / RS-Soph Faasolo OR RS-Frosh Hylkema

At least to me, the unknowns are 1) how the staff feels about Finau developing and potentially being ready to start at LG. If they think he needs another year, bringing in a Junior or Senior in the portal to give him another year (while he runs at #2 LG as a RS-Frosh) would be ideal. 2) Whether or not they think Azzopardi will be able to take the next step after his first starting season in the B1G. 3) If a guy medically retires or transfers.

That is not good enough. They absolutely need 1 (preferably 2) portal studs at O line to be competitive. You're not going to have a shitty o line suddenly turn good just because they have a years experience.
