Based on our roster and what we already have in this class I never really viewed Marsh as likely or even really a need (he's an obvious talent of course).
It felt more like planting seeds as to whether it could/would be a fit in the future in the event it didn't work out with Michigan. With them getting Underwood I don't really see any reason for him to not go to Michigan now.

Sounds like we missed on a few other guys and are taking Langi. Huffman had a less than glowing taking on his skill set

Will be interesting to see if Oregon is able to ultimately flip Stascausky officially … everybody seems to think so. It would seem to me that if we're getting Langi that is likely the fallback if that happens.

I never worry about taking kids that are 6’5” 330. Those bodies are hard to find. My worry is if the kid is nasty. Will he work hard to change where his weight lies and improve his flexibility and athleticism? Will he coast for five years, take plays off in practice, and eat a roster spot or will he put in the effort to be great? If the coaches think they can change a kids demeanor then they’re wasting their time. It rarely happens. I think that kind of tenacity is in you or it’s not.
Hopefully he’s been vetted and they’re confident that when he gets in the doors, with his buy in, they can turn him into the type of mauler UW needs to move the LOS. Losing 2/3 of your best recruits to Oregon a couple weeks before signing day is a bad look. It doesn’t mean Langi is a bad prospect though.
 
Until UW starts paying high school recruits to sign, it's inevitable that they will lose a few recruits to programs that are willing to pay 17 or 18 year olds. Regarding Ploog, Oregon struck out on multiple guys from the midwest and beyond so I'm pretty sure they went to Ploog and said hey, Phil Knight will pay you $150k or more a year to go to Eugene.
It sucks that UW being a much better school in a much better city and with much better post-college options but it is what it is until the NIL madness settles down some.

all seriousness, I mentioned this was to secure a bigger bag and I stand by that assumption.

Underwood flipping likely killed any thought of a flip.

Roman Tomanshoff put out an article saying Michigan might flip Stascausky after Michigan flipped the QB from LSU.
He said same QB likely cemented Marsh to Michigan.

Essentially That Langi isn't a very good football player and none of the schools who offered him early are still in contact with him. Its very rare for guys like Huffman to say "yeah, he hasnt been very good but maybe he develops." Reminds me of a few years ago when we took the db from Bosco when Terrence and Willip were our coaches who was a bench warmer. Also the Latu kid from Bethel (lb) who I don't think even played football his senior year.
 
Stascausky going to Michigan would make more sense than going to Oregon
That said there is a very clear path to early playing time for him here at UW (not sure what Michigan's OL situation looks like)
That said, the important thing for UW in this class is to upgrade their overall talent and depth and regardless of what happens at the top they will do so with this class.
While it would have been preferred to keep Ploog you could argue that the roster would actually be better served filling that scholarship spot by getting a more experienced player to replace Latu's role this year (see Arizona's roster) and then stacking another high-end TE in next year's class where there is a better separation vs DeGraaf from a class standpoint.
Stascausky is the most talented OL prospect in this class but the reality is that there's a good chance that UW needs 2, if not 3, OL starters to come in via the portal. In the event that he chooses to go elsewhere, that will only open up a roster spot for potentially a high end prospect in next year's class to feel like he's going to be able to step in and play right away.
With the portal there's always a path to covering your ass for any recruiting miss here and there.

this does not bode well for fish considering his inability to get (buy) top portal lineman. Hopefully something’s changed with his philosophy or bag man. Probably not.
 
If you’re talking about the SMU tackle I’m thinking he was a supply and demand risk. In Spring there was low supply and high demand. Maybe Fish and Carrol put a number on this kids skill and when Missouri went past that number because they were going “all in” this year they said thanks but no thanks. Correct me if I’m wrong, Missouri has taken a step back this year and SMU doesn’t seem to be missing this “great” OT they lost. The optics were bad because UW was desperate but I think the SMU kid was probably closer to Max McCree than Troy Fautano.
