I've heard he's considering leaving, but it's thought he'll return. He's not a TE, not a WR, and he's Asian. Great college player, don't see what he does in the NFL.

Rosen isn't the right kind of QB for Kelly. Chip would have to recruit/develop some runner and take his lumps with Chosen for the next two years, all under a huge microscope.

$4M/yr for Herman might get him to move to LA.
 
Something about Mora has always screamed to me All Hat, No Cattle.

Is Mora really Sark + two top 25 finishes?

Herman loves mobile QBs too though. His QB ran it 20 times in the bowl game vs. FSU and carried the ball 178 times in the regular season. That's pretty much the opposite of Rosen (though Rosen may only have 2 years left at UCLA and Herman could tailor his offense to him while getting his own guys in there).

If Mora does leave, I just hope UCLA hires a mediocre coach in the Karl Dorrell / Neuheisel vein and sticks around 4 or 5 years.
 
I would disagree slightly with you Roadie. Mora CAN coach, but he isn't anything special. He's good enough to get to 9-10 wins and better than Sark, but we know that's his ceiling. He develops talent just fine and has the right idea about defense, OL and running game, but he is lacking upstairs when it comes to game day. Decent coach, but not technically gifted. Maybe better as a coordinator. I'd love to see him as the Bama DC next year.

He's not bad. I do disagree about him being a coordinator. I think it's kind of the opposite. He can run a program, motivate, and recruit. His defenses have mostly sucked or at least underachieved his entire career though.
 
Herman just got his UH diamond grille put in. He isn't leaving the dirty south for UCLA.

Better than Sark isn't a good measuring stick. But agree, he would be a great coordinator.

Mora leaving could be a good thing for UCLA. He upgraded the talent and expectations (to some degree). He just can't actually coach. His reputation is somehow much greater than what is deserved. He's from a football family and part of the good ol boy network.

The doogs who hate Mora are dumb, but he's an average coach.

In Rick's 4 years UCLA was #67 in SRS. Mora turned it around very quickly and did a good job. Problem is he just couldnt get over the hump. Saying he's average means there are about 10-15 coaches who are above average.

Mora came to UCLA at the perfect time to break through that ceiling with USC stuck with sanctions and Pat HadenFS.

He brought in a metric fuckton of talent and underachieved horribly.

He would be smart to get out now while he is still employable as a head coach.

It's as high or higher than any other school besides USC, including Oregon.

They've just fucked up coaching hires lately. Mora is better than guys like Dorrell, but he's no Saban. I think Roaddawg probably has it about right. Mora is a good motivator and recruiter, but he was never a great tactician. He really needs to go find some genius, antisocial coordinator like Chimp to get to the top.
 
You vastly overestimate UCLA football. They always have some players. But they lack any of the stuff that makes CFB programs great: Weak facilities, weak tradition, weak fans, weak boosters, weak salaries, weak expectations. They can't give seats away in "their" stadium. Mora is one of about four guys on campus who GAFs whether they win or lose.

I was surprised Mora took that job. But he reached UCLA's ceiling quickly, and I won't be surprised to see him win bigger someplace else.
