Tevis Bartlett to Washington!

In all seriousness, this is a HUGE get IMO.

This is a kid when you watch the film you just see a player ... forget all the other BS about how great hips are, how fast they are, etc.

One thing that Charles and Donald have been stressing has been the importance for Washington to get back to recruiting football players and not so much being enamored by the stars or whether or not the player is some kind of track standout. Some of that might be important with some of the skill positions, but it's really not. Football at the highest level is highly technical, highly nuanced, and a lot about want to than it is about physical gifts. It's when you combine all the other stuff with physical gifts that you get the freak kind of players.

Getting a kid like this also speaks VOLUMES about the message that Petersen is sending and that the kids are buying the messaging. A kid like Bartlett have the kind of attributes that you find littered up and down the roster of high caliber teams.

100% agree with you on the bolded part. Since they have gotten here they have really done well in recruiting. But the most important is that the message they came in here with in recruiting is working wonderfully. They aren't going to have to drastically change their message, it is working and they nailed it right away.

When you come into a program with a career 92-12 record and after one "disastrous" season you are now 100-17 ... it's not hard to convince kids and parents that you know what you're doing from a coaching standpoint. When they are able to connect the dots and realize that not only are they going to get great support off the field to go with great teaching on the field, they get to live the life of abundance.
 
I'm sure this kid is good, but I don't really see anything amazing on film. He just looks like a kid who you project in the future based off physical and mental characteristics.

The main thing I like about his film is his intuitive ability for his body in space. He does a nice job getting to the right spot and using his strength.

No matter what, though, this kid is a sign that Petersen can close on kids. I'm impressed yet again.
 
I think one thing we can start expecting is that if Petersen is in on a kid's Top 3 or so when he announced, the odds of us getting the kid are probably in the 81% category.
 
I think there's something to be said for kids with QB experience playing defense. A better understanding of the game.

Petersen needs to stop recruiting MW level talent. His only big time offers are Oregon Iowa and a couple of lower level Pac school.

"I guess Bartlett kept to himself during his recruiting cycle, but I thought he wanted to stay close to home, that seems to make Boulder the logical choice... but I can't fault a kid for picking the Huskies. Good academics, nice atmosphere, I hope it's a good fit for him, but damned if he wouldn't have looked good in B and G."
