You inadvertently made a point that some people are missing. DJ was a Husky for one year. He portaled to us, spurned his old team, and is now a Husky legend. I don't give a shit about the dudes leaving. We're going to learn to love guys who finish their careers at UW whether or not they were here for 1 or 7 years. The second the whistle blows in September, all this shit will be yesterday's news and we'll wonder why we cared so much in January. I'm gonna ride or die with who got, same as it ever was.

Also, we have to allow that some of these guys could be portaling out because Fisch doesn't want them. Leadership, loyalty, that's all irrelevant. Fisch has his own vision and we can't expect it to be the same as KDs. Can't fault kids leaving if coach hates them. LIPO.

Mike leach running DJ off the team while calling him a soft pussy may have actually saved OUR season, got the OL the Moore Award, preserved Glass Penix for the year, and won Deboer the Bama job...
DJ did more dirty work than any other RB in college football and was a tough physical runner that pushed his body to its limits (except for that one time he couldn't crawl off the field).
UW easily drops 2 games and probably more when Penix dies mid season from a A gap blitz that isn't picked up.
They're good points. It's kind of like how we want every instate kid to stay in Washington yet UW will always need kids from other states to spurn their local schools to reach full potential. UW definitely benefitted this year from DJ leaving MSU, Penix obviously, Polk leaving Texas Tech, Bernard hanging out for one year, Muhammad leaving OKState. I don't know the situations with all of those guys and those programs though.
I think one thing that make this situation unique is the program is coming off playing for a natty and is losing a massive amount to graduation and the draft and most of these guys were set up for leadership roles, guaranteed starter roles, and assumedly competitive NIL deals.

I'll never have issues with players transferring like Morris who graduated, filled the role that they were asked to fill, and had frank conversations with the staff about what the future looked like and then there was a joint path in getting the best landing part possible.
UW is a Top 15 program in college football ... transferring out as a starter is directionally weak sauce for me ... even more weak sauce if you're transferring out to something outside of the SEC or Big10

His most memorable thing he did as a Husky was when he held the bowl for Penix to stir, after a Penix TD.
Transferring when a position leaves = leaving every 1.9 years or something like that.
NIL deals need to have a lump sum paid near the end of the deal.
It will take UW 2 years to rebuild a decent OL. Fortunately, Will Rogers throws a lot of short and quick passes, so a weak UW OL will be masked by his abilities next year.
