Super Bowl 2020 rosters: How the Chiefs and 49ers starters rated as high school recruits

It’s always pretty amazing how few NFL players were highly ranked recruits.

Is it?

A lot of those highly ranked recruits are hitting their peak in high school or early in college.

Also, rankings don't factor in the mental toughness or fortitude of playing football for a decade.

Development aside, it is largely a numbers thing. ~50% of 5 stars get drafted. There just aren't a lot of five stars. Naturally you will see large representation from the largest group (non-blue chips)

I submit Jeff Luc.

Or more recently Stephen Carr of USC.

Additionally, development includes being in the right place right time and right situation (team, scheme, culture etc ...)

Both Luc and Carr looked and played like monsters in high school. But that's high school.
