Strength & Conditioning Program will be hugely upgraded

Petersen in the chat said he thinks Socha is the best strength coach in the country. Strong statement from a guy who doesn't like to apply praise in those terms. So I looked at Socha's bio..

He was a 4-year OL for U of Minnesota. Has a degree and grad degree in fields directly related to S&C. His entire career, dating back to being an OL has basically been spent in S&C. Compare that to Ivan who lacks coaching experience & neither of his degrees were in anything related to S&C.

92-12 gives a certain amount of trust when someone makes that statement ...

At this point, since he hasn't proven otherwise, I would tend to buy that statement.

I thought it was pretty good. Mostly coachspeak, but also some candid remarks on areas of concern, like the secondary, which we all know are thin.

I hear offseason workouts are going better than ever. Whole team has really bought in. 100% attendance.

A testament to that were the innovative S&C challenges present at every practice this spring and his immensely successful "Husky Combine". I'm sure programs all over the country do similar testing for their athletes, but Socha organized the event in the form of a combine, complete with NFL scouts and the media, not mention posting the results which meant the fans could join in, too. But most importantly from that event is how it'll create a healthy competition between the players through the summer.

Think about is this way, you have all that testing and scores behind closed doors and the weight room has the Top 5 or whatever listed. That's bound to have some motivation, especially for the people near the top. But with the combine, you have NFL scouts and the media watching. Now they know your times and reps and weights and whatnot. Do you think you're more motivated to pass up your teammates in their 40s or bench press now with others knowing your numbers and looking for improvements?

I'm wonder what other ideas he has for the team this summer.

Uh oh, implosion imminent...

Have you found the Seattle press to be more difficult than in Boise?

I was hoping you'd ask that question. YES!

"not really, with the exception of a little disheveled guy who keeps leaving his coat in my office and asking me about open practices. And his fat sidekick who always has cheese drippings on his shirt and sweatpants".

Fuck that. If you have a Strength and Conditioning coach with a Graduate Degree, you're clearly doing it wrong.

A real S&C Coach looks like this:

You guys are fucked.

Having lived in Boise during much of the Petermenn era, their S&C program was widely revered as innovative and highly effective. Socha was even in local commercials for health products.

Edit: I don't think he has TV arms, though. And doesn't wear sleeveless shirts to games. And doesn't accompany the head coach to bang cocktail waittresses. We can't even say 'wait til Tim gets ahold of him.' Wait, what the fuck did we get ourselves into?
