(Big sigh)
This again.
I’ve always been on Team DeBoer-Was-Leaving-Anyway - he was never going to turn down BAMA, and I will die on that hill…
BUT
The fact we? didn’t make a flashier offer made us? was pretty weak optics wise.

Hindsight is always 20-20 though. If DeBoer were still here and he got his big paycheck, we’d probably be screaming about how underperforming the team is.
This time last year, Dannen was confident that DeBoer would sign the extension but from there, DeBoer kept coming up with reasons why he hadn't signed it (busy with game prep, busy with recruiting, busy getting ready for CFP, etc etc etc). One has to think Sexton had told DeBoer that Saban was going to retire so it would have been FS to sign it when keeping his options open was in DeBoer's best interests.
So the argument that if only UW had offered DeBoer $10 million off the bat instead of $8.5 or $9 rings hollow and isn't really rooted in the reality of the situation as it unfolded.
Regardless, we are where we are and it's better to focus on the players and coaches who are here than those who left for their own reasons.
Saban has said after Rose Bowl loss to Michigan that he "thought they had a good chance to have a really special season this year" which for him is code for a legit chance to win a NC but when doing after game/season player meetings two things kept coming up. Players asking how much they could get to stay, and how much playing time they could be guaranteed. He looked at his wife and they both said wtf are we doing then.
That being said, Nick was interviewing for assistant coach positions 3 hours before he made announcement to retire and no one inside the building was even remotely aware that was coming.
With that background, that doesn't sound like Sexton would have known anything in the fall to slip Kalen a note in class about not signing b/c the Bama job is going to be open but who knows.
I believe saban said that, but it’s an attempt to write his own narrative. His imminent retirement was an open secret all last season, ffs you had Kiffin tweeting how much he’ll “miss this matchup” after Ole Miss lost in Tuscaloosa in early October of ‘23.

First off….. I don’t believe Grubb ever interviewed the year before for the offensive coordinator job. It was 100% a fact finding mission or DeBoer was interviewed then
UW had zero shot at ever retaining DeBoer
that’s my conspiracy theory and I will die on that hill. Same with the Jojo Mathis injury.
What if it had been anyone but Bama? Would he 100% have left for Florida State?

Deboer wanted more and didn’t want to have to recruit. He wanted a place that recruited itself or others could do it for him.

Danning was a fucking idiot that couldn’t read the writing on the wall. He was too busy misspelling Huskies, using weasel logos, and correcting his acne rosacea goofy Nebraska smile.
Is Danning your fictitious bastard child of Troy Dannen and Dan Lanning?
he wasn’t here long enough to care. Can’t be related. Lanning is pure douche. Dannen is a red headed stepchild. No way they’re related.

I've long been with you that the Grubb Bama thing last year was at the very least a fact finding thing by Bama. Possibly to try and gauge a bit what percentage of the operation was DeBoer and what was Grubb.
I'll also always remember the sinking feeling I had when on Instagram after the first Oregon win it was Grubb doing like a personalized thank you to Husky nation. Felt like it was a start to trying to soften the blow/set up Grubb as the guy.
What is the Mathis thing again?
I didn’t think he was ever injured
UW was super cagey about it. It’s been debunked but I was too far down the road so I’m staying with it
