Some changes coming to the site

Okay guys we're going to have some changes coming to the site in the coming days. We're looking to get this tested and set before Huskies training camp arrives in August. The site will function pretty much the same but is going to have a slightly different look to it. I'm keenly aware that many of you do not like change and probably won't like it at first but you'll adjust and soon it will become the new normal.
General site performance is the main reason for what we're doing. In the last couple of years, Vanilla has made a really big shift in how the platform is being developed - specifically moving to React for the front-end stuff. It's a lot faster and gives Vanilla's product team the ability to build out very custom sites with minimal coding knowledge.

The legacy theme used by Hardcore Husky was built using the older codebase, and not many things developed by the team will function on that codebase anymore. (We saw this in February when we suddenly lost the ability to quote posts in the manner/style that we've done for the past 12 years). This includes a lot of the general performance enhancing updates that are pushed out which prevents the annoying page-jumping behavior we've experienced lately from occurring on other sites.
One stylistic thing I'm not fond of is that category avatars are smaller than I want. Vanilla says they are not able to make them bigger right now but that is something that will be addressed.
Like I said, we're looking to get this squared away in time for fall camp in August.
Thank you and if you have any complaints or PTSD issues with this please direct your comments to @CFetters_Nacho_Lover

React is great. Them selling it as not requiring much coding knowledge is fucking idiotic. Their product team is not coding.

You didn't know what it was until you googled. Fucking fake ass wiki warrior.

Vanilla is still working on a particular detail before the new design launches. I would think it should set sail sometime in the next 5-7 days

AKA…shits about to get fucked up for a minute but it will get worked out. React as in don’t over react?

I told the IT guy working on it that the badges were much too small. I would like them to be around the same size we have now.

Can the devs program it so every time loser and time are typed in, it posts as looser and tim?
You may not be familiar with badges. They're the little things next to the avatar that signify that a poster has supported the site. ;) ←——- $75k

This washed out theme has no character or personality. Get a purple and gold dark mode.

Friday afternoon update:
Finished

  • Tweaked the Rank label (golden football) so it's more centered on the username.
  • Adjusted padding on page so there is less empty space at the top
  • Adjusted padding between reaction buttons and post

Could you send me the original image file for the Hardcore Husky logo and banners? The copies that Vanilla has saved are smaller than they should be. If I have the original copies, it won't be hard to make it look sharper.

Regarding the logo (top-left of the page), what size would you want that to be at? Also, is there another image you'd like to use there? When copying from the previous theme, it looked like you were just using another copy of the banner image. Personally, I think the size of the logo is fine, but replacing it with an actual logo image (an "HH" or just the mascot's head) may be the way to go.

Things I'm working On:

  • Adjusting font size - make usernames larger than text in comments/discussions.
  • Removing circular frame on avatars
  • Post Count and Post Date Alignment - this looks to be a mobile specific issue related to the size of the rank label (golden football)
(He'll continue working on it on Monday)

this needs some help but is progress. Of course everyone on here wants you to get off there lawn… change is hard.
As self-appointed website superiority guy, this doesn’t blow.

Product managers. Don't even know their own customers.

This is worse than I ever thought it could be. Grey text on white background, just fantastic design!
