Softy calls for Cauce's head

Like what Race alluded to, DEI meant that a fat bald midwestern piece of shit was given one of the cushiest AD jobs in the country. He showed up, was given some purple reign cigars, then Fisch was served up to him on a silver platter by UCLA, and then he made the easiest termination decision in the history of UW basketball.
This is why Twitter is unbearable too. Everything bad that happens you have retards spamming DEI and cougs spamming 'Half Share'. It's fucking exhausting.
The half share stuff is real in the short term. It means we need to zero base budget everything in order to grow the pie as big as possible or get left behind when the next wave of alignment comes up. The athletic department has been built on being in the top 25-30% in terms of revenues relative to its direct competition. It's easy to get lazy and focused on the wrong things in that environment. I fear what AMC will learn from this ordeal is that she needs to make sure the next AD is an even better fit than Dannen to the existing culture, but what she should have taken from this is that the culture needs to shift to match the moment and that business as usual will not work.
I think we are going to fuck this up.
If UW isn't taking any of the loan stuff that the B1G set up for them, then money isn't an issue. Besides some extra basketball facility they don't have any major projects which is what these full share schools are blowing their wads on. And it's been exposed by several coaches that facilities don't matter nearly as much nowadays.
The half-share thing is a butthurt coug narrative. It's hilarious how a half-share is so critical for the cougs, but a 15 mil, zero exposure Apple+ deal would've saved UW from being is this pretend financial crisis.
I can assure you that money is, in fact, a very big issue.
Oh man, I feel really assured now.
I'll go ahead and ignore the fact that a 14-1 roster was secured for 2023, one of the most sought after FA coaches was secured *in fucking January* (he didn't jump when 'full share' UCLA job came open) and wait for the desperate "we need to take out that advanced loan from the B1G because we need the money so badly" play.
I saw first hand that the AD was clearly getting an influx of money from the fans this year. I'll go ahead and trust that over some imaginary Tyee guys that leak info to sales quooks.

Nebraska used the same search firm UW used. Sue their asses.
The in-depth reports from when UW hired Dannen were that he pursued the UW job after hearing that Jen left (he had met her at some convention). It wasn't the search firm that zeroed in on him through some miraculous search effort.
I expect the same thing happened with Nebraska. Their search firm didn't zero in on him — he heard about the opening and sought it out.

either way. Sue their asses for being involved and having the clear conflict.

If you’re paying hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of dollars to a fucking search firm that doesn’t bring you the candidate you end up hiring, it’s an indictment on

I get that it is a what have you done for me lately business but Cauce did get us to the B1G. That was HER.

The longer list of fireable offenses between Cauce and Softy goes to Softy, rather easily.
She got us there eventually, and on the half-share, but don't you think we had a crack (at least informally) at the first window when USC/UCLA bolted?
I'm not sure what to believe on that… all the B1G smoke was that we* did not pencil out to the same money to TV as the LA schools, but it is possible we were considered along with UCLA and replied with some bullshit about not going B1G for the sake of the conference blah blah
Of course UW wanted to stay. Sentimental saps abound in this area. I have always believed that UW could've been on the first ship out with USC, UCLA, and Oregon if the school had tried.
To be fair, it's hard to blame people for wanting to continue tradition versus playing four road games in Piscataway NJ, Columbus Ohio, Lincoln Nebraska, and Bloomington Indiana. Going to the Big Ten is pretty FS for every reason except the corporate overlords who throw money at universities.

'Husky Honk' slams UW athletic director's sudden departure, questions leadership
“This is a totally different ballgame now for Washington. You're competing with Ohio State, Michigan, and Nebraska, who just took your AD for God's sake!”
He revs up.
“How does that happen? It happens by either Ana Mari Cauce stepping down and somebody else taking over or a new AD convincing Ana Mari Cauce to be a bigger partner financially with Washington's athletic department end of story. I mean, how long is AMC going to be on the job? I don't know. Rumors are flying around that she may be out of there in a year or so we'll see if that actually comes to fruition. I think that's what you're talking about. Chris, you're talking about a whole different attitude regarding sports from the top at Washington,” said Mahler.
if there was ever a post that needed the KOMO4buttfucker tag it’s this onw

Fuck you Softy. This wasn’t AMC’s fault. CEOs and other execs LEAVE! quickly for other higher paying jobs all the time. And like DeBoer, I’m sure Dannen got a heads up through back channels that the Nebraska job was a real possibility, so that’s why he didn’t uproot his family. He only wanted them to deal with the hassle of moving once.
What I DO blame AMC for is giving a goddamn interview at the airport acting like a deer in headlights saying how surprised she was. That’s not bad bitch boss energy. I would have preferred for her to say, “I’m appointing (insert name) as interim AD, and we’re going to make a great hire.” Then she starts calling the list of prospective replacements THAT SHE ALWAYS HAS AT THE READY BECAUSE PEOPLE LEAVE ALL THE TIME!

I would laugh if AMC was announced as Harvard’s new president. That would be the perfect bookend to all this madness.

Let’s roll up the sleeves and untie the gloves a bit …
Softy speaks on what information that he is fed … his sources come from within the existing AD and boosters
Cauce is in her upper 60s … the idea that she may retire and leave UW at some point is fairly obvious … her track record though suggests that she’s not walking away until she’s satisfied with where things are and she strikes me as a lifer more than a time to ride off into the sunset of retirement
Cauce took FULL ownership for the BIG10 move and knows that that move requires UW to raise its game to match its new surroundings … she hired Dannen to navigate the change required
Every interview I heard from Dannen hit all the marks I wanted to hear about what was REQUIRED as we transitioned …
What I do take away from Softy’s spewing is that Dannen encountered some significant obstacles and resistance to the change that he was bringing … change is hard and part of the process is identifying those that are on board and those stuck in what has been done and will be obstacles going forward … it is CLEAR that there’s a lot of obstacles that remain in key places
Dannen chose the path of least resistance and left for Nebraska … for that he deserves a rusty cheese grater … the key takeaway for me though is that whatever obstacles that remain are such that he didn’t want to mess with it
So all eyes are on Cauce and why I’m so intrigued by what is occurring … the department desperately needs a change agent leading it that challenges and breaks some of our historical norms and forces growth and evolving of our mindsets … will she continue with that with this hire or will she relent and satisfy the dissenting voices and hire somebody that is closer to our historical ways?

Between a trip to the National Championship in football and a flexing of their power to oust Dannen … the old guard must be feeling confident in their view that UW doesn’t need to change and adapt
IF that group wins out then I would bet on a very rocky transition into the Big10 and Fisch leaving relatively early in his tenure

Sorry, I'm not giving Cauce that much credit on the B1G move because it had to happen - it was an existential move for the university's athletics. It's not like she was some kind of visionary and had a bright idea.
Based on UW history, it's more likely that she nixed moving at the same time as USC and UCLA, costing UW a full revenue share in the process, than it is that she negotiated UW a seat at the table that wouldn't have existed were it not for her. No, I have zero facts to back up that thought. Only a long list of examples of UW fucking up over and over.

I’m not too worried about Fisch leaving. If UW doesn’t win, his phone won’t be ringing.

I believe she's about 60.

I also fear that the went down with dannen, both while employed and the departure, have whatever old fucks holding us back saying “see, this is what happens when we hire that type.” If Lez has no balls (figuratively) then she won’t challenge them on that and won’t likely go against them again with the hire.

Likelihood I’m way off but we’ll see.

Dannen sounded questionable from his introductory press conference. He sounded like a dipshit to be honest. Oh really dude your "style" is to delegate to capable people? Fucking mind blowing stuff there bud.
Literally his one useful quote was "I need to help Kalen win," which he did in the form of letting him completely and dishonestly play the boosters en route to Bama.
UW with whatever problem people think they have (it appears to just be having to pay more on the stadium now, and supporting non revenue sports which let's be honest, cut the baseball team and the beach volleyball team anyways), they weren't as impressed with him in the following months when his tenure actually got going.

I see this from fans from time to time with pretty much no smoke or evidence beyond sonics made up stories. It's pure doogcraft imo.

Hearing that we have made an ad hire, and it’s King Inslee approved…
