I tried to watch it. Two hours of my life wasted.

Almost every US shot on goal was like they were trying to kick over Ed Too Tall Jones. Sailed into the 35th row.

You gave up one minute of your life? I haven't seen one second of soccer since channel surfing as a youth and seeing that red-headed dude (Lalas?) looking like he just rolled out of bed after smoking a J to take the field for what probably was an American loss in the mid-90's.
 
Netherlands has less population than the 20 million in the state of New York. Soccer definitely not attracting our best and brightest. I grew up playing pick up baseball, basketball and football. Today, in a upper middle class neighborhood you don't see kids playing outside. Some hoops in our neighborhood, but they really aren't used. Local grade school never has a pick up game of anything going on. Might see a dad with a bucket of balls and a kid on the baseball field, but never just a group of kids.

Middle class kids playing soccer equals mom's driving them to soccer practice for an organized practice a couple of times a week, not playing pick up soccer for hours after school everyday.
