So we know Saudi Arabia is backing the Islamic State, and are pretty sure

You claim to find the Saudi monarchy problematic but have no issue with the theocrats in Iran?

That theocracy is only there because it is all that Iran had in it's arsenal to overthrow the dictator (shah) that the US and UK installed after we overthrew their democratically elected leader. It is a process there now. I'm optimistic they will get to a democracy again... as long as the US/UK don't stand in the way... and allow the Kingdom of Saudi and Israel to dictate our policies.

Oppressive regimes don't usually just give up, as an example look at what happened in Egypt post-2011, or in Syria. The mullahs still have time and money on their side, and the anti-west line remains a pretty useful tool for rallying support. It's a big stretch to see Iranian behavior in Syria and Lebanon as likely to change much over the next few years, and so to say that we should give up nearly a century of support for the al-Saud family for more chaos and uncertainty doesn't strike me as a good choice.

Yes. When it becomes clear that the Saudis supported the 9/11 terrorists, and support IS, we should stop considering them our friends.

Taking over our embassy is cool though

When you overthrow a country's elected president and install a dictator, you're lucky when all they do in response is take over your embassy.

I'm sure the Saudis have a reason too then.

Your logic fails. You should read a history book
