Skinny Eason

Of course you want a talent like that, but If Brownie is as good as I hope Eason won't see the field until he's a Senior year.

In all honesty, I'm a little jaded when it comes to QB recruiting. We currently have 4 4-star kids on the roster, 1 of which was the us army all-american game mvp, and our QB play this year was dawg shit. Too much blame when it goes wrong, too much praise when it goes right, yada yada yada.

It's hard to predict who has the mental aspect on lock when the stadium is full, the defense is swarming, and the windows are tight. They all look good, until they don't. We witnessed complete brainlock this year, and i nearly killed myself every saturday as a result. I guess I just backtracked on everything i previously said and no longer give a fuck who we sign.

Browning and Eason are in different leagues right now as college prospects. Browning is good, but out of our last five QB recruits, I consider him the worst. He's accurate, pretty mobile, and he puts up gaudy numbers in his Mike Leach offense, but he's not an elite prospect. He has a very low release that needs tweaking, hasn't demonstrated the ability to take anything more than a 3-step drop, and has average arm strength. Plus, who knows how his playing in a painfully simplified offense is going to translate to the college game. Eason on the other hand, is as elite as they come. Of course he has prototypical size, but beyond that he grades out excellently in arm strength, release/mechanics, accuracy, and he isn't hiding any deficiencies through a system offense. Kid is an absolute stud.

Well shit. This is more time than any grown man should spend talking about teenage boys.

The reason why people are high on Browning isn't because of his release, his arm strength, his physical attributes or his numbers in the Mike Leach offense, but rather that he fits the offense that Petersen wants to run here. The two most significant aspects for a QB to have in this offense is accuracy and anticipation, and those seem to be traits that Browning has that Miles, Lindquist and Williams do not (though we should acknowledge the limited coaching and sample size for each). Kellen Moore did not have elite size or the strongest arm and had a low release, yet he went on to win 50 games as a starter and threw for 14667 yards, 143 TDs, and 28 INTs in his career under Petersen. Not that I'm saying Browning is the next Kellen Moore (don't go twisting!), but that he seems to be moore like Moore than the other QBs on the roster.

@RoadDawg55‌ The TBS'rs over at scout have your boy Malik Henry from Westlake rated #4, while Eason is #5.

Easons film looks good, though he seems to look to leave the pocket and throw on the run a lot. Maybe that's because his OL is shit, or it's just the specific cut of highlights.

Fuck off, Passion. It's just message board talk. I also said I like Browning a lot. Yes, he is a great high school QB. Cyler Miles, Jeff Lindquist, and Troy Williams were pretty damn good themselves in high school. I am very pleased with Browning's commitment. You want to get a good QB prospect every year and Browning fits the bill.

There were other QB's that Petersen recruited at Boise State that were not named Kellen Moore. Browning is going to have a lot of competition for the starting job. That was the point. I wasn't being critical of Browning.

I can't believe Henry is so highly rated. I would have never believed it watching him against Oaks Christian.

Regarding Eason, he left the pocket on most of the throws when he went deep. Starting in the middle of the film, he stays in the pocket and throws quick routes. His ball is on an absolute rope too.

Browning is good enough to get an offer from Alabama. He may not be big enough to be an NFL starter but he's reminds me a lot of Aaron Murray (4 year starter at Georgia and 5th round pick in 2014).

I'm sure Mark Richt told Eason that he'll be his next Matt Stafford but how much longer will Richt be at Georgia? He hasn't won the SEC since 2005 and the heat could turn up again if he loses his bowl game vs. Louisville (he's 1-3 in his last 4 bowl games).
 
The coaches actually made Cyler Miles an average to above average (by stats) quarterback this year. That speaks volumes to me about their ability to get the most out of their QB's.

I love those that are pointing to Matty Mauk as a slam against Browning ... for all of Mauk's warts this year, he played in the SEC title game this year. Yes, I realize a lot of that is about his defense, etc., but he had to also do some things right along the way.

Let's go get a strong QB each year ... we'll find one that can play out of that group.
