Now that I'm thinking about it, I think Iceberg Lake was the trail where a grizz crossed the trail bout 100 yards up. Not far from the trailhead. Large group of hikers had assembled because of this bear and her cubs roaming a meadow blocking the path. My dad made a joke about holding hands and singing Kumbaya. People chuckled and groaned. That may have been the same hike. I'll have to ask him tomorrow.

Scared the shit out of us since we were first in trail at 6am and other than critters, didn’t encounter any other large beasts on the trip to the lake and back. Stayed at the Lake lodge there and for some reason didn’t have our dog. Must have left him in Portland. A lake that in early July seemed like what would now be an AI scene of the most magnificent mountain lake reflecting a blue sky possible.

Scariest shit I've encountered up there was taking a boat across Waterton Lake, literally into Canada, got off for a little hike, turned a corner, bull moose standing 5-10 feet in front of us, looking right at us. Biggest shock of my life. Bullwinkle himself, in Canada even. Bullwinkle is fucking huge and scary. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.

Wife and I took him out to piss after sunset, he (dog) tenses up, there’s a bull moose with a large rack 10’ away just standing there looking at us. Dog didn’t flinch and we scurried back into the room. They are absolute units. Only more massive animals I’ve been near are zoo elephants.

If that ornery grizzly is around, I’m guessing I’ll be fine though considering it’s been seen multiple times and is supposedly a male.

I was an extra in that movie during the party scene.
Not kidding and as a Sigma Chi our house was kitty-corner to the SAE house where the party scenes were filmed. Brad had beers with a few of us living at EX there for the summer on our deck because he’s a Sigma Chi from U of Missouri and I’m one from UDub and Montana State. He was basically an unknown then and my bros and I thought he was just fun and then we went to the Rocking R bar afterward. What a time it was to be alive!

My scariest moment hiking was with my exwife hiking in the cascades past Oakridge Oregon... 6 or 7 miles in or so, not a sole around and it's starting to get twilight... we were on our way to the vehicle when something that looked like a black panter started track us and our two Dashounds... we picked them up and hightailed it... it tracked us for at least 2 miles....

And scariest ever was a helicopter ride in Kauai... we hit a bird or something and the pilot was freaked.... we had to go back.... luckily we landed ok, but I have had a minor fear of flying ever since... doesn't stop me though...

I did a helicopter tour above Mammoth/High Sierra crest on a sunny day with 5 people in a rickety old thing with a grizzled pilot at 15k and it was amazing and I've had enough helicopters for one life I think, unless I get invited. Yeah, that was my shock too when seeing a full bull moose. It’s 11pm in Gardiner and I’m looking face to face with Bullwinkle on steroids and my Mally is stunned into silence as well. I had a harness for that dog and he’d pull me to Montana State campus on my bike. Malamute intimidated everyone except those he knew. People knew me for it but I was just getting him exercise he loved and had a buddy right off campus who’d keep him in his yard while I was in the lab.

It may not have been because I don't think they are in our area, but rare black cougars are... it was something black , but not a bear.
