Sheesh... Paolo Banchero has really improved.

Sad we have to watch the home-grown kid play at Duke.

He didn't have this shot in his arsenal in the past... clear he's really been working on expanding his game. He's gonna be fucking good.

Unless he completely changes his shooting motion he shouldn’t be allowed to shoot from outside 8 feet. That’s the jankiest jumper I’ve seen in a long time. Still not sure how it went in

I like they way his game projects at the next level. I’d like to see him be a little more aggressive. The few times he takes the ball to the basket he’s head and shoulders stronger and more athletic than the guys he’s playing against. He’s got a good back-to-the-basket game but he doesn’t use his athleticism a ton. He’s 6-9 so it might not matter that much but he could stand to be releasing the ball higher when he shoots in the post.

Shot mechanics look fine to me... it's all about finding a consistent release point, putting consistent spin on it... which he does... and the ball leaves his hand with some nice, soft touch.

I don't see much wrong with it, especially for his size.

You would think that. That’s how my jumper looked summer before 4th grade when I was learning to shoot with one hand instead of two.

It’s all push, no legs, no arc.

I agree on the “no legs” part. The footage of him shooting vs putting it on the floor and going to the hoop makes it look like two different players. Reminds me a lot of Zion Williamson in that sense.

Zion has done a good job of incorporating his athleticism into his mid range game.

His release is too slow for the next level. He's not elevating much either - guys guarding him in college are going to be of equal length and athleticism.

Go watch some Cory Kispert highlights (damned near text book) and then watch this.

He's still damned good and fuck Hop for screwing the pooch. But he's got a ways to go to be NBA ready on the perimeter.

Well he's a 6'9 power forward and a terror in the paint... if he's shooting outside its likely because guys are playing well off him daring him to shoot. If he's capable of knocking down the the open 3 that's a big advantage.

Corey Kispert is a small forward who basically plays shooting guard.

I'm comparing shooting mechanics. Paolo's aren't great. He'll get de-pantsed in the NBA if that becomes his new normal.

You understand EVERYBODY is 6'9" and a terror in the paint in the NBA, right?

For his age the mechanics are largely fine

To this point he likely hasn’t consistently played against dudes that can match his size/speed combo ... until he struggles getting his shot off it’s not changing for him or anybody else

Shooting mechanics continue to evolve as you get older and he will no question improve ... raising the release point will help because it’s too low at present. Release though does seem to be somewhat quick (good thing to keep in the arsenal on face up opportunities to take advantage of lazy D) and there’s plenty of arc and rotation to the shot.

I see a less aggressively athletic Blake Griffin with Paolo ... learning to work better off the ball will be the next big jump in his game as most of the highlights were really about Paolo getting to his spot.

Duke is probably the best place for him.
