What record would make 2015 a non-failure year in your mind?

Petersen needs to start proving it by the end of next year. It's not the best analogy but you could see the Seahawks were going to be good in the future at the end of the 2002 and 2011 seasons. That's the vibe that's needed.

I look at the way Arkansas played late this year as a good barometer. I think that team is on a really good trajectory and that was Bert's 2nd year. I agree he needs to show something at the end of the year. I want to see young guys actually playing and producing more than anything, plus wins.

Agreed to an extent. At some point the QB situation will be on Petersen and I'm not exactly thrilled by his decision making on that subject last year, but the fact remains his solutions to that issue are freshmen.

If Sark the great recruiter had a Max Browne on the roster there might be a serviceable buffer to get his guys up to speed.

The QB issue is fucking serious and the child of Bear Bryant and Don James couldn't fix it.

If Miley is the guy next year we need to be running the option and they better not teach him how to fucking slide.
 
Remember it was season 3 when James took off . I'd be much happier if Petersen launched us in 2015 but it is difficult for me to see.

2015 I see 6-6

I'd be mildly pleased with 7-5

2016 10 wins or GTFO ...

They have to win the opener. After that the rest of the pre season is a gimmie. 6 conference wins, 5 minimum. 8 or 9 wins.

There is a reason to look at the opener to see if his program is taking hold.

I agree year 3 is the big one but if people write off next year as over already they don't think Petersen can coach

14 years of the year after next is enough

Utah State is 30-11 the last 3 years - far from a push over. We're at home and should win. But I'm also not going to sit here and beat my chest like it's a formality that we will.

And at this point, I haven't looked enough at Boise to get a feeling as to whether or not they will be good or not going into 2015. What I do know is that better teams than the 2015 UW team will have gone into Boise before ... and many of them have lost.

Going into 2014, I spewed that TCU's Big 12 problems were more tied to the lack of QB play than the fact that they lacked the athletes to compete in the Big 12. They got QB play in 2014 and look at what happened.

I don't think that the 2015 Washington roster will be as strong as the 2012-2013 TCU roster, but they probably aren't that far off when it comes to the non QB play. IF Washington got elite level QB play, then my opinion of the 2015 season would be far different. As it is, there's no reason to have a lot of faith in the QB position. If they did get elite QB play, then being a darkhorse to win the PAC North is definitely an option (which is what I said going into the year regarding the 2014 TCU team).

The 2015 Washington team will start and end with QB play. Pepsi is also right about Arkansas being a great comp although I think you could see a path to their success starting last year. With all the turnover in our roster in some key spots, I'm thinking that we're maybe a little behind where Arkansas was going into last year.

If Petersen thinks there is any chance we don't roll over Boise St, he better be sleeping in his office figuring out a way to make it happen.

I mostly like Petersen. He's shown he has a keen eye for talent, he runs a disciplined program, and he preaches fundamentals. He won't let players slack off and ignore every non starter on the team. All of this will lead to better depth and player development.

I just don't think the players will develop right away. The OL will be young guys and bums. The entire front 7 save Feeney is gone. And QB will likely be below average this year, barring a surprise. The offensive system at the least needs some tweaks, maybe even a total overhaul.

Coaching matters, but this team probably won't be very good. Talent and experience matters as well. This roster is lacking in both. I think Bill made the best point in the thread that by the end of the year, there should be something to look forward to.

If by 2016, we still are getting below average QB play and the team is still soft, we will know Petersen isn't the guy. I will bitch and be pissed if Petersen loses to Boise like I do after most losses, but it will take a 4-8 type season with multiple plungers for me to completely quit on Petersen before 2016.

@RaceBannon, I find it interesting you have a minimum win count for 2015, but said 2014 didn't matter whenever UW lost.

You could see carrolls first trojan team was going to be good as well. Even though they finished year 1 at 6-6 and then started year 2 0-2 or 1-2 there simply was a feeling they were ready to take off.

Wow Race I am impressed I take back the title of king apologist for Petersen I bestowed on u.
If he is a good coach he should produce next year.
 
Blows my mind that some of the dooglier posters on here are already writing bsu off as a loss. Embarrassing. 2 offseasons with the team by this point. If the game isn't at worst a toss up then Petersen isn't remotely who we thought he was.

Except we don't have a QB, a new OL that isn't particularly exciting, and the best players on defense are all gone. And the game is on the blue turf where Boise has always been great. Besides all of that, I love our chances.

But I guess we can doog it up and pretend this will be a good team after another off season natty.

I still am standing by 3 years, although I expect big mo to be rolling by end of year 2.
