Seattle wants money to clean up The Ave

That's crazy how things have changed, so these people control the sidewalks now

Back in the day it was just mild mannered punks and street people (no gangs, no guns). But if anyone got out of line they got their ass kicked. I witnessed this a few times

LOL Bill, I witnessed it - did not partake. Huge fights down on the Ave back in the day, spill out into the streets around closing time. Thank goodness there were no smart phones, people's careers would of been ruined

Did this woman know what she was getting into? It's always been seedy, at least since the 80s.

I don't know, maybe it's worse now? Queer5 could have actually done some digging for actual crime stats instead of just getting sensational comments and sound bites.

The city wants to clean up the area before the Light Rail station opens on Brooklyn and 43rd. Land value is going to jump, there'll be new businesses and new apartments built in the area over the next 10-20 years.

The city wants to capitalize on the investment and will do anything to improve the area on someone else's dime. Whatever happens, it's not gonna work until gentrification moves them out.

Well, just another example of not enforcing laws already on the books. Seattle passed an anti-loitering ordnance against "sitting" on the sidewalk a long time ago. It was upheld as being constitutional. Just like the law against driving on your cell phone, it isn't enforced.

""$200 in a small business is not just chump change," Schmitt said. "I'm a business owner, and for $200, my customers should feel safe."

$200 a year mind you. Try to bargain that down to $10.95 per month...
