SEATTLE HISTORY - "THINGS THAT AREN'T HERE ANYMORE"

My first Seahawk game was in '85 when they lost to the Cheatriots way before Belicheat, Brady Bunch etc. I think I went to a Mariner game also in the mid 80s with some family friends, but football>>>beisbol. Seeing them beat the Broncos in 1988 was awesome. I remember there were KXRX Elways is Mr. Ed t shirts. I wanted one so badly. Seeing the Mariners with Griffey, Johnson, Edgar, Buhner etc. in the 90s was fun. KJR was pretty good back then. It wasn't Ashley and the fat dude who made the Mariners for 30 games struggling through a show...

For some reason I liked Mariners games in the Kingdome better than ones at Safeco.

It helped that the late 90’s Mariners had sluggers and when you attend a game, you want to see Homeruns.

I preferred Safeco but I know what you mean

I don’t miss the Kingdome at all, but I saw a lot of cool shit in that building…

1984 Final Four
First Seahawks playoff game
95 one game playoff

I was there for the first playoff game. 31-7 over John Elway and Denver. Christmas Eve 1983. I remember all the Christmas lights shining bright on the drive home. I was 12.
My first Kingdome trip was for the Hawks first pre-season game in 76, against the 49'ers, IIRC

Saw Zeppelin, Wings, the Stones and The Who...shitty concert venue

95 Final Four

The Double

Got to coach for a state title there...

Stones in 1997.

Watching it get blown up from a condo on First Hill in 2000.

Other than that, I don't have a ton of great King Dome memories having not been born and raised in the area. Went to a few Ms games in college and saw the AFC West hawks play #MyBolts. I rooted for SD.

Totally agree. Ball dies at Safeco and it's too damn cold at night.

My uncle sold game day programs at the King Dome. He died in 2000 but I can’t remember how close to the King Dome implosion.

He was known as having a booming voice and people would come up to him to ask if he was using a microphone-speaker to be so loud.

I actually think I vaguely remember him

Chubby and Tubby was a great place to buy Chuck Taylors and shrink to fit 501s.

I equate Chubby and Tubby with Chuck Taylors.

And Carhart. Got a bunch at substantial discounts when they shuttered the White Center store.

White Center @TurdBomber ? You sound pour.

Show me a Chubby & Tubby that wasn't in a pour neighborhood?

WC aka Rat City has always been solid for certain stuff, like McLendon's, Big Al's Brewing, and the only Auto Parts stores left in West Seattle.
