Saturday should have been the last Apple Cup

How many P4 programs have 1 for 1 home and homes with G6 programs every year?

It's not hard.
Home in Seattle every year. Better than playing Montana state for ticket and ad revenue. Coug can either take it or lose what will still be a desperately needed money game. No, scheduling Portland state isn't a good alternative, NOFC.
As easy an out as any OOC C game with way more relevance and interest. Plus a further chance to scout for NLI transfers for depth.
Coug is truly little brother now, replete as our? minor league franchise team.
Some of you need to act like men and stop being scared of a greased up coug. If we? can't beat them by at least 21 TSIO anyways. This shit is preseason now.

I was in the camp of nuke the series, be done with Coug forever.
…until I went to the game last Saturday. I witnessed a throwback to a regional football game where families and alumni on both sides got together and enjoyed a day of tailgating and football. Almost all Coogs I talked to rescinded themselves to knowing they were getting plungered.
Salty….there was a lot of angry, salty fans that hate all things Husky. Walking around in purple was interesting and entertaining.

The gayme was sold out, student section packed and chanting F’ the Huskies on and off, we walked by large bands of Coug frat bros and got a ration of shit.

Good atmosphere, and now that I’ve seen it from the other side, I absolutely believe this series should continue. It’s good for Washington, good for local/regional football fans, the Coogs need to get their shit together and put a good product out.

Ope careful you almost forgot about bringing value to the shareholders. That's what we're all in this for remember

Definitely not getting that against Chattanooga state.
People need to stop thinking this is an A or B ooc game against an A or B level opponent.
It's a warm up game against a patsy team but at least one which has traditional and regional relevance.

As usual, when we left for B10, UW Brass rolled over to "public Pressure" from the how dare you leave WSU behind if you don't continue the Apple Cup we will protest blah blah blah crew, and so we agreed to this farce of playing there every other year sharing a rounding error of a gate big picture.
UW should take some of the supposedly 123m we've taken in for Montlake Futures and buy tf our way out of this asinine series which it's now at.
As someone else said, what other P4 school has a yearly home and home with a G5 and assuming with NIL, transfers, recruiting hold true to form, these games are going to look like more and more the final score Saturday, and eventually you won't sell the Apple Cup out in Seattle or Pullman.

Great post. Sums it up perfectly.

I see both sides here. I think the "play them every year in Seattle" idea is the right solution. It sadly probably means the game has to die for a few years before Coog gets desperate enough to agree to it.

The culture of the Apple Cup was great and the kind of fabric we're cutting out of our society in the name of milking every fucking cent we can out of everything. It won't be replaced and the in-person interactions between Cougs and Husky fans which helped define the region won't be replaced. The difference between the two schools also played on the differences of the state and had some fun to it. The Washington-Oregon rivalry is zero fun and forced by money in about three different ways.

I thought that this game was a good showcase for their campus, stadium and program. They have a good QB that they kept to ride them out through this last ridiculous year.
Then after that they're in a league that I'm going to watch a ton of as West Coast football fan.

If you were at the 2022 game in Eugene you are purple pilled forever. I don't care how gay it is to admit that.
Joey's almost at the acceptance phase.

In the interest of tradition, I think throwing em a bone and scheduling 2 for 1 would be fine. Given the insane in conference travel, it makes sense logically for "us" to play games in state. But more than that, it would shame the fuck out of Wazzu and OS. /shrug

We've had 10 years of two dudes standing in the middle of the ring throwing haymakers. Nobody on the ropes.

Do you think that continues if 1) Cuog is never/rarely competitive in the game and 2) it is never played in Pullman anymore?
I don't see how the athletic department gives up a 7th home game, especially not until we're getting a full share of TV revenue.

UW is borrowing future B10 earnings to close the gap on this half share nonsense as we speak. Is that 10 mil a year? 15? So when UW gets a full share in 2031 they’ll still be at a deficit to the rest of the league except for probably cuck UCLA. I don’t think Oregon is borrowing money, pretty sure Phil is covering that gap or at least most of it. This program needs revenue flow and playing games in Pullman is a financial drag for the AD. The arguments for continuing are valid and make sense from an emotional and regional perspective but strictly from the black and white financial side, it is in UW’s best interest to part ways.

You'd think a boomer would want this to continue but the ugly truth is that I have never liked the Apple Cup since I was a young pup. My dad hated all the NW teams because he didn't think they belonged in the same league as UW and the California schools. I like that kind of Husky arrogance. He hated the games, except Oregon because he hated them more, and never once got excited to play WSC
82 and 83 sealed it. Nothing to win everything to lose
Same as it ever was

Your Pops wasn't wrong.
There was a disparity in the old Pac 8 in terms of prestigious institutions- i.e., Stanford, Cal, UW, UCLA and USC & the cow colleges/UO.
Also, of the famous interstate rivalries in college football, there was probably no greater disparity than UW and WSU in terms of wealth and prestige.
