Burien (Wash.) Kennedy Catholic 2021 quarterback Sam Huard will play in the 2021 All-American Bowl in San Antonio but as an early selection to the game, he got to take in the 2020 game over the weekend.
"Obviously I was pretty shocked when Coach Pete stepped down, but my family asked me if there was any other coach I’d want to play for and that was Coach (Jimmy) Lake," said Huard. "Besides Coach Pete, I had the best relationship with Coach Lake."
Huard also worked the phones with 2020 commits and 2021 targets of the Huskies to make sure they stayed on board.
"I called Jalen (McMillan) that day and I had no worries that it would play itself out," said Huard. "And I've been working on Jack Yary too so we'll see what happens with him."
Huard has also been a vocal recruiter of key 2021 targets.
"Obviously, J.T. (Tuimoloau) and Emeka (Egbuka) are at the top," said Huard. "Of course Junior (Alexander) and Jabez (Tinae) hopefully and Julian (Simon) and then out of state Troy Franklin. I'll obviously have more conversations with other guys but I'll do what I can to."
Huard said he was eager to see what Lake did at the offensive coordinator position.
"Coach Lake told me what he said in the press conference, his mentality on defense is to attack you and he wants to bring that mentality to the offense and on special teams," said Huard. "That was his main statement, to be more aggressive all-around."
