Safeties

Does it sound like Beaver and Baker are going to be the starting safeties to others on the bored? Kevin King looked promising but shoulder surgery in the off-season probably delayed his strength / size development.

Does the D staff have interchangeable safeties or is one safety definitely going to be the FS?

Baker will start. He may start game 1. King will be a player. Needs to add 15-20, but already is extremely athletic per the "pro" day in the Spring. Physically he reminds me of Merton Hanks...we'll see if he's anything close to him as a player.

The one thing about the safeties is if the front 7 is very good in the run game then the key for the safeties could be getting turnovers more so than having to make lots of tackles.

IIRC, Beaver and Baker are both playing free. Walker and King are playing strong.

That's what they are listed at, but Lake said they are interchangeable. A lot of high school and college defenses play a right safety and a left safety. The call decides which one is the free and strong. Wilcox's defense was the same way.

I think Baker will be the nickel which plays over 50% of the snaps. I think I read he wa already working there in practice with the first defense.

Cool thanks everyone, was out of town for awhile (trying to avoid debt collectors) so need to get up to speed.

I also say "avoiding debt collectors" when I really mean "I was in jail again."
