Two definite outsiders clash here in a battle of 60s/70s vs 80s/90s

Merle Haggard[/b]

Easily could have been seeded #1 in this bracket and shouldn't be viewed as anything less than a 1B in the seedings. You want an outlaw and outsider … Merle's your guy. Anybody that says "if it wasn't for country music I'd be in prison" isn't something you traditionally here in Country music and much more in @dnc's recently completed rap battle.

Dwight Yoakam[/b]

Another contestant coming from the Bakerfield roots … Yoakam is one of the latest outlaw/outsiders in the bracket and to some one of, if not, the best.

Grew up with the bakersfield sound. Met Buck Owens and watched him perform with Dwight. Good chit.

Dwight's great and all, but anyone that votes for him over Merle is gonna to be on my shit list. I might go full Helfrich.

I'm sorry but I don't think we can be e-frens anymore. Merle was the greatest artist of the Bakersfield sound.

Merle was too fucking uptight. Okie from Muskogee always reminded me of the cops in Fear and Loathing.

Talk about a weird fucking film.

Skrong disagree on Merle being uptight. Dude was fast strategy as fuck.

Merle gets my vote but barely. Yoakam's acting in Slingblade almost made me vote for him

I was the one who fought for Dwight to be in this, but even I never expected he would be nearly tied with Merle. I love them both, but Merle is a true legend.

I've always been fascinated in these tourneys how much half brain taste can on occasion diverge from mainstream critical opinion. Most country music historians and expurts would have Merle, at worst, as like the #3 artist of all tim in the genre's history. He was that important. And yet here he is losing to Dwight.

If you are voting based on all tim influence sure Merle takes it rather easily. Shall we say 34-17?

I voted for who I like to listen to more.

There are no rules to how one should vote in these things. I voted Stones over Beatles in the Rock BOTB, but no band was ever close to the Beatles in overall importance and influence.

That was the tie breaker for me, but they're both great.

If you fags are making votes based on acting, Tim McGraw should win the goddamned tournament.

(still bitter on that shitty lower right bracket).
