Robert Griffin III and Samantha Ponder Fired By ESPN, Per Report

I will always hold how shitty a QB he was in Washington against RG3 (but more how he was an arrogant prick to his teammates. Yes he gets some pass for Dan Snyder being Dan Snyder but RG3 was still a dick) but he became a decent commentator. I wonder if he was also a dick to his ESPN coworkers.
Chinteresting point I never considered. I assumed it was about money.
There was a lot of smoke around RG3 being the owner’s pet and therefore had more clout than the staff. Also smoke from players and coaches in that same vein. The O Line suddenly blocking better when Cousins played wasn’t an accident. I’ve heard enough from the players/coaches of that era to give it more credence than just rumors and complaining.

Dude never caught on anywhere else in a real role. Yeah, injuries but Usually when players leave the Redskins their careers get better. Never happened with RG3.

I don’t discount DJ’s comment that it is entirely possible that he has matured.
Well… NFL players, who on average have short careers, are going to intentionally not play well on the offensive line in order to sabotage a QB they reportedly don't like?

RGIII was pretty fun to listen to. He’s a different breed but I like how he doesn’t seem to care what other people think. I’m sure that’s what got him canned to a certain degree.
I also like Sam Ponder. She made watching the pregame shit on Sunday mornings more enjoyable as an old, perverted male viewer.

Around the Horn is getting canceled in about a year. That show was good in the 2000s with guys like Woody Paige. Now it's woke (not taking it to the Tug). Then ESPN wonders why their ratings suck….

There’s always Only Fans, Samantha.

My daily dose of ESPN died along time ago. In the moments when my bar time ESPN and RGIII lined up, I liked his takes. Nice to have a guy that shoots from the cuff and doesn't fake it out of fear of being shit canned. Unfortunately, it caught up with him.

I used to watch PTI and ATH every fucking day. Haven’t watched it in years. The glory days of Woody, Cowlishaw, Bob Ryan, Blackistone, Plaschke, et al are long gone. The show went downhill when Max Kellerman left.

Ponder was critical of men playing in womens sports. ESPN is owned by Disney. You do the math.
herbie is critical of it too but they kept him. Not sure if it was related to this.
Everyone in front of a camera there is overpaid.
ESPN is broke. Without having to tittt, they ruined their programming, their original content like 30/30 and other specials have been mostly busts for years now, and they have had to be in the arms race with the SEC, MMA and the other pro sports that they think they need.
They're fucked, and I'm glad UW isn't attached to them via the Pac/Big 12, etc.
GameDay and ironically Pat McAfee are the only things giving them ratings.

Everyone knows I'm biased, but I think overpaying for the SEC a few times didn't help matters.

I feel like Herbie is a bigger part of their lineup than Ponder. I know who she is and had no idea she worked for ESPN.
Their talking head “sports” shows are fucking dumb. I’d much rather watch 2 guys playing catch than listen to a sports journalist argue with another sports journalist over the ridiculous topics they discuss. Hell, I hardly even watch any of their pregame shows.
About the only thing I appreciate about ESPN is that it’s allowed for me as a fan who spent most my adult life living outside Washington the ability to watch my dWags in the back hills of Kentucky.

there’s no such thing as intentionally not playing well but there is such thing as culture and extra motivation to play well.
