I think I did a Duvall pole some years back but it's been lost to the sands of history.

I have never seen Lonesome Dove, but have heard that may be his greatest role. But went with what I have seen.

GOTTA go with the war pic although he was the unsung hero of GF 1&2 ~ what a good time to watch this guy…

I went with the war pick as well but I thought he was great in every movie I saw him in. One that sticks out is Joe Kidd (watched many times as an Eastwwod fan), and he was good in the minor role in Jack Reacher.

Gus. Lonesome Dove is a completely different genre but even accounting for that is not the epic that is the Godfather and he's brilliant in that. But in terms of individual performance and carrying a whole move (it's actually a miniseries but whatever), that's the one in my view. I like him in open range but he's more of a bad ass in Lonesome Dove.

Forgot Open Range. Oops.

Absolutely. And Gone in Sixty Seconds, Days of Thunder and a classic, Joe Kidd, with another favorite icon, Clint Eastwood, not to mention Stalin(@DerekJohnson)….

Lonesome Dove is his best role, and it’s not even close. The BEST mini series of all time, especially in a “western” sense. I NEVER get tired of Lonesome Dove, best western series or even throw it in to movies, Ever…

Robert Duvall even said as much, best role he’s ever played. And he was Awesome as Gus McRae, along with Tommy Lee Jones. Another icon on the blink.

We are losing, now, some of the greatest actors and actresses that’s ever been. Clint’s up to bat, sadly.

It’s worth the tribute.

RIP, Gus/Duvall..

There’s NFW you will regret it.

Lonesome Dove is the best mini series ever made.com, ever…western or not…

GOT is the best series ever made and may never be surpassed, ever…..and I don’t think it will ever be, but Lonesome Dove is no doubt, the best in American History. And Robert Duvall was a YUGE part of that series, along with many other great actors/ actresses. It’s a series that will Always stand the test of time in our history, from mine in the Deep South to yours, no matter where you may be..

(I know, I know, take it to the Tug)

I do want to thank you for the reminder to watch Lonesome Dove ~ I never did read the book or watch the series, so I am watching the series now… just watched the first of 4 episodes, it is pretty epic.

I'm in the same boat. Might get around to watching it.

Absofknlutely

There really is nothing better, IMO.

Duvall played a small role in what’s leading this pole, Apocalypse Now.

His ass WAS an icon in Lonesome Dove. He was awesome and brilliant.

BTW, there’s only 4 episodes:

1. Leaving
2: On the Trail
3: The Plains
4: Return

It’s a 4 part/episode series. I’ll have to tell y’all a funny story about this long series later with a good friend of my dad’s.

But I’ll leave this here too; Tommy Lee as Captain Call(Tommy Lee Jones) wasnt bad in this either. Gus(Duvall) made the series but Theyre were many greats. Here’s another great clip:
