The thing with Newton is he's a JAG.

I'm fine with taking Newton if we hit on a kid like Harrison and get them both. Or someone at that level. But by himself, he sucks. Lowe is a scat back and that might be his complement and that's okay.

So I realize everybody backed off Maurice Washington over the last 6 months, but he can't be worse than Fig right? He had 3 touchdowns in the TBS All American game today.

Versatility ... if he is unable to make the regular offensive rotation then he has options defensively etc ... I guess every class should consider a player or two who is able to move positions if necessary.

Vea played RB in HS? Yeah, RN can probably play LB or fill in for injuries ... so yeah, a JAG with a purpose ...
 
The thought of this kid pisses me off. I don't want another weak ass RB like Kamari Pleasant. Especially not a weak ass RB named Richard Newton. I want a real power back. Brown needs to commit before this kid steps foot on that plane to Seattle.

In the 2015 class UW went after both Chris Warren and Myles Gaskin. Warren was the higher rated recruit and undeniably a "power back" at 6'3 240. His highlights were more him just running over people while Gaskin's showcased his vision and elusiveness a bit more. I think everyone on this bored would rather have Gaskin than Warren and wouldn't think twice about it.

Up until this season he was a back up to another NFL talent in Deonte Foreman. I'll be sure to bump this thread when Warren is drafted ahead of Gaskin if Gaskin gets drafted at all. And yeah, Gaskin is running all over great defenses in the Pac-12. Those defenses for Oregon, Cal, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, and WSU were all so good last season.

The problem is you're opinion of how talented you think guys are is based solely on what they look like in high school. What a guy looks like in high school may be as good as he'll ever be whereas for others, may not be anywhere close to their true talent potential. As you can see, Rich Newton put on 25 pounds of muscle in a year. That has nothing to do with Petersen and company. That talent and genetic potential was always in him when we recruited him. It just wasn't obvious at the time and he had to put in some work to bring that talent to the surface. All that matters is what guys look like when they're in college and it's their time to step up and be one of the guys getting carries on game day. And it's funny you mentioned Frank Gore. That's pretty much who Sunday compares to. Durable, powerful, good balance, and tough. Gore has never been fast.
