Recommend Stalin some dirty, rainy night in Lynnwood jazz

So last Sat night as I’m walking to 900 Wall for dinner this old guy jazz duo (one alto sax and one guitar) were playing Girl from Impanema and I yelled out Stan Getz ! Mrs Snow was embarrassed.

I listen to that album at least a couple times per month

Do we? trust a guy that doesn't drink?

As a non drinker myself, hell fucking no.

This is one of the guiding principles of my life

I don't drink because I come from a family of alcoholics and I have seen firsthand the destruction it's brought in their lives.

Ergo I don't drink because I don't trust myself.

50% of may grandparents were alcoholics - albeit functional ones.

I trust myself to never go full blown alcoholic. I don't trust myself to not throw back 3 - 4 cold ones on the porch every sunny summer day (there are a lot of them).

It's hard; it's a process.

My dad was a highly functioning alcoholic like a lot of WW2 vets. I didn't even realize it until I was a teenager. Drinking and dinner parties and playing bridge were staples of the 60s in our house

He wasn't mean he was withdrawn

In my 20s I was a problem drinker. And mean. I moderated.

For some people, moderation is a better course of action vs total abstention.
