I think he was legit hurt. He missed the combine iirc and the hip was a visible problem when he ran for scouts at UW. That's what I recall.

I've convinced myself that it was Rapp that drove Petersen to stark raving madness. I think I detailed these thoughts a few days or weeks ago and I still stand by them today. Staff needs blame for not having McKinney more prepared, but I think Pete and Coach K thought Rapp was playing, and the rug was pulled out right before the game. This caused Petersen to have a stroke and quit football. He could not believe a Dawg like Rapp could do such a thing. His entire foundation of trust in his guys and the sanctity of college football was incinerated in that moment. I like to believe this tale. Don’t forget about Brian Flones from Woolley Two time state champion wrassler and then portaled to Burlington his senior year because SW was ass in football. All state linebacker for Burlington his one year there. No big school offers so he walked on at cuog and started 3 years at nose guard in Pullman at 215-220 lbs. UFA to Seahawks and played 3-4 years for them ( mostly special teams).
