SEATTLE — Seattle has new rainbow-colored crosswalks for Pride Week, and it plans to keep them for years.
Mayor Ed Murray unveiled one of the 11 new crosswalks in the historically gay-friendly Capitol Hill neighborhood on Tuesday. He says the display "says something about Seattle": that's a city of diverse neighborhoods and character.
KIRO-TV reports that the idea for the rainbow crosswalks has been discussed for some time, but has been delayed by logistics and cost. They cost about $6,000 each, and are being paid for by fees for new private developers on Capitol Hill.
The crosswalks are east of Broadway on 10th and 11th Avenues. They're expected to last three to five years, but the city said it plans to maintain them for years to come.

It's ok I guess. 5-10 years ago it would have been annoying, but I'm a white priveleged, cisgender, racist homophobe until taught otherwise by opportunist scam artists who teach the way to rectify such things.

If the mayor is so concerned about honoring the diversity of all citizens, then how about he paint this as a mural on a downtown building?
