To clarify, it's not a crime to produce deep fakes like this in and of itself.
He was arrested for theft and other crimes, and the deep fake was considered retaliation against a witness.

It’s a crime reporting them to the police and then getting caught being the hoaxer.
Usually these aren’t even prosecuted, though. Same as filing false reports of sexual assault.
What's hilarious and the biggest clue the audio was a fake is because at the end of the racist rant they got greedy and threw in an anti Jew comment completely out of nowhere.
