I was once part of a startup where we poached 5-6 people from a big company. Then the same big company bought the startup and those that had left were now back, but with much fatter bank accounts from cash outs and guaranteed retention contracts. Lots of crying from those that didn't take the risk once some of the equity numbers got floated around. Always take the bag.
