No mockery intended for a change even though I wrote quooks. That's tongue in cheek.

What I'm referring to in my question is a statement from the doogman days made by one of the quook posters there when mustache Mike stepped down and Kelly was announced. A duck poster made a statement something like..."this is how a good football program is run". There was a lot more inflammatory language involved. It was the dm.com free board after all.

I argued the point, mocked the poster and the ducks, and predicted doom for them. They came out and got embarrassed by Boise in the first game with Bellotti still lurking on the sideline. I took it as validation and was relieved.

We all know what happened. It was a great move by a well run program. Oregon went on a historic run. No natties but still an awesome run. UW couldn't even force a low, B level effort out of the ducks in the annual ass kicking.

So long story long...this situation might bear some resemblance to that one and I wonder if anyone is willing to acknowledge that. Lake's resume is really good. He's well regarded as a football mind, a leader, and a recruiter. He was being groomed for this position. He's as good of a replacement as there is available on paper, short of snagging someone like Meyer who has already proven everything. Time will tell if works out, but I think this is how it's supposed to be done. No?

Only difference is that Chip set the world on fire as OC, and Lake hasn't moved the needle to a remotely similar degree.

The short answer is yes, the coach in waiting handoff is a good model. But for every Chip, there is also a Helfrich.
 
Chip also had a system that changed the sport which was covered under setting the world on fire but still.

Lake is a better recruiter because Chip hated it

These are two different issues being discussed now. I admittedly can’t keep up with all the goal post moving around here.

I’ve never been able to, to be quite frank.

I don’t think this is a terrible hire. I don’t know. I knew this is who UW was going to pick, though. I just know that everything any of you have used as adjectives to describe someone as a Sark like looser you applied to Mr Lake as strengths.

And we can’t just let the purple car slide, can we?

We should at the very least baptize this guy as Sark until he isn’t. Because thats how he introduced himself to the world and would have been the first post made on the other board Had Big Mario jumped in a green batmobile 5 seconds after being hired by Oregon.

All I knew about Sark was USC under Carroll. Unlike Damone I thought it could work even for a couple of years. Some guys hated it right away.

All I know about Lake is that he can stock teen boys according to our stockers. That seems important these days and was also given as a strength for Mario. Which it appears to be

Until we get on the field and see what he can do its all swagger and glitz anyway. And like Sark, Lake has that

As I posted elsewhere it's a low bar on gameday as Petersen was a MAJOR disappointment between the chalk lines.

 
You asked so here is my opinion. I never liked Peterson and he coached at both my Alma Maters. He is a decent coach. He fell into a Boise State program that Pokey Allen built. IMO he couldn’t compete with Cristobal on the field or in recruiting. Washington fans always have lofty goals which is good, you should. Sometimes they were a little unrealistic. Peterson was always going to come up short IMO. Rewatch the last two minutes and OT of the loss at Autzen stadium. Perterson blew it. He snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I don’t know much about Lake except for a few articles I have read. He might be an upgrade. Not that it is a game changer but he has no head coaching experience. Some coaches have risen to the top given these circumstances some have sunk to the bottom.
He will have to hit the ground running and save his recruiting class. Next years schedule for Washington will be rough and IMO Oregon has a chance to be better next year.

I didn't predict or even imply anything like that junior. It's really a simple question: was it a good move? I think it was. That's all I said.

You should try educk or dawgman where your simple approach to reading and reacting comes closer to hitting the mark.

I remember thinking at the time "So he ran a pro style offense on a team that was loaded. Who gives a fuck." That hire was incredibly thoughtless in comparison to this one.

I don't think there are many similarities between Sark and Jimmy. Ducks making that comparison are just lazy/trolling.

I'm excited to see what Jimmy can do. Unless he sucks.

Let's just put it this way: what would you honestly think if Oregon had hired Jimmy Lake Ballz? Not what you'd say. I know that answer. But what would you honestly think?

And let's be clear: he is no better a recruiter than Crisco, and Crisco has a much longer trail of evidence to support his rep in that area. So, at best, that's a wash.

Jimmy has been a DC for one season, and it wasn't that great a season.

Of course it's LIPO, but it's always LIPO. For everyone.

Knowing what you know now, which is nothing, you have to say he's black Sark until he's not. That's the board motto, and you can't cherry pick w/o wearing a doog badge.

Just to try again...a doogman thread from the very dark, distant past popped into my head. A furious doog effort to poke holes in what Oregon did with Bellotti and Kelly, with typical message board shit talk etc, turned out to be all for naught. It was a great example, as it turned out, of the proper way to run a program that was positioned well, but not quite getting there.

I dont think Jimmy Lake is going to impact the program or the game the way Chip Kelly did. That was a rare occurrence and would take a retard to expect even if Lake was bringing something as impactful as the hyper speed, shotgun spread. Lake is an innovative coach and obviously detail oriented and all that, but hes not bringing anything revolutionary to the table.

The parallels, or maybe just similarities, that I see are the status of the two programs at the time the changes came, and the fact that a big change that was surprising on the surface was actually by design. There was a plan in place and it was executed well. They identified the guy they wanted in advance, made the necessary moves to get/keep him in the on deck circle until the time came, and made the change. It wasnt tumultuous or damaging in the immediate or short term like it can be when a successful HC steps away (or is demoted via promotion). I dont see much happening as far as recruiting losses or transfers. Lake is in a position to keep any staff he wants to but has the funds and support to make changes as he sees fit. He may end up sucking, but the transition is going to be smooth.

If Oregon hired Jimmy away from UW to be hc I'd be a little worried but lipo. Just like I'm excited, not terribly so, and will lipo.

Keep in mind there are quooks here that after 2016/17 said Pete was done after Jimmy leaves for another school just like Michigan State and their DC. Now that same retard us saying Jimmy is our Helfrich hire.
